Despite Kogi State allocating over ₦96billion to the health sector between 2020 and 2025, a health facility in Agiati village, Geregu town, Ajaokuta Local Government Area remains in a state of severe neglect, civic technology platform, MonitNG, has revealed.

The facility, which is meant to serve multiple communities, currently has no functional beds, no equipment to preserve vital drugs like vaccines, and not even an ambulance to handle emergencies.

“There are no functional beds, no equipment to preserve vital drugs like vaccines, and not even an ambulance to handle emergencies,” the matron on duty said, visibly frustrated.

She further explained, “The buildings are falling apart. She told us that they’ve written letters, made calls, and even hosted government officials to appeal for renovations, but nothing has changed. This is more than just neglect. It’s a failure that endangers lives every single day.”

MonitNG questioned where the huge sums of money went, given the deteriorating condition of the facility.

The neglect endangers vulnerable groups including pregnant women and children, who depend on such centres for emergency and routine care.

The platform urged, “The government, both past and present, must be held accountable. Health must move from political promises to real, tangible action. The people of Ajaokuta, and indeed all of Kogi, deserve better.”
