The Elero of Ileroland, Iwa Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Kajola Local Government Area of Oyo State, HRM Oba Wasiu Oyedele Saka Olokolonigi has proscribed the fulanis’ use of swords within the town and compelled them to henceforth desist from destroying the farmers’ properties.
Olokolonigi made announcement of proscription of Fulanis’ use of swords within the community, during a security summit held at Ilero Town hall, on Thursday, December 24.
The Elero of Ileroland in his overall submission said that the Fulanis should henceforth desist from using swords within the community, stop vandalization of farmers’ properties and train their children on proper gracing to avoid damages of farms.
He added that the issues of persistent kidnappings and armed robberies’ attack would be vehemently frowned at, stressing that any one caught perpetrating the heinous crimes will not be handled with kid gloves.
The Monarch also warned the farmers to stop taking laws unto their hands over an alleged poisoning of the farms ,stressing that such acts were lawless and attract severe punishment in a court of competent jurisdiction.
He called on community chairman, Alhaji Amuda Ganiyu Amugat, Seriki Fulani of Ileroland, Oloye Keyo and the farmers’ Representative, Alhaji Tijani Arikewusola to ensure that the peace reigns between the farmers and fulanis.
Earlier, the Chairman of Ilero Community, Alhaji Amuda Ganiyu Amugat in his welcome address said that the security summit was targeted at rubbing minds together on end to persistent clashes between the farmers and Fulanis, way forward on rising cases of kidnappings and warning to those who are working for the smooth operation of the alleged marauders terrorizing the community and its environs.
Seriki Fulani of Ileroland, Oloye Keyo lavished encomiums on the monarch for his initiative to organize a security summit aimed at ensuring peaceful coexistence between the community farmers and Fulanis, stressing that they would make use of the privilege to reach out to all fulanis and ensure that they adhere strictly to orders that were promulgated by the monarch.
In his own submission,the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Iwa LCDA, CSP Olukayode Adigun Sunday enjoined the farmers and Fulanis to see reasons to live together happily, stressing that Fulanis should not transact their business at the expense of farmers’ destruction of farms and shortage.
DPO added that many farmers obtained huge loans from cooperative societies and other sources before they had their farms established and it would be annoying while cattles are destroying them, urging Fulanis to shun destruction and the farmers against alleged poisoning of farms.
Farmers in their contributions, Alhaji Tijani Arikewusola lamented that farmers have never killed any Fulani but it was disheartening that Fulanis had killed countless numbers of Yoruba farmers, adding that there were many incidents of such dastardly acts which are happening now and those happened in the past.
Arikewusola said that Fulanis who are named Hauta, Jindo and Jimoh but failed to appear at the summit had been alleged of destroying farms, calling on the monarch, the security men and the community leaders to reach out them and others found in culpable acts.
Mr Jubril Olawumi said cattles were not the only animals destroying farms but sheep and goats were also seen on farms causing damages to plants on many actres of land, stressing that though the law makes provisions for freedom of association and movement, it should not be abused by the Fulanis whom they accommodated to live peacefully on their lands.
Abdulkareem Sulaiman who spoke on behalf of the fulanis said it was high time they formed a conflict resolution committee between the farmers and Fulanis, adding that doing this would put a permanent solution to persistent clashes between the duo.
Abubakar Damina said that the routes which are meant for the cattle’s’ passage should not be blocked by the farmers nor clear by them for farming activities, adding that some cattles which were caught destroying the farms are owned by some influential people in the community.
The security summit was well attended by the monarch, community leaders, the security men, farmers, Fulanis, Hausas and host of others.
