
Principals, Teachers, and Students at Aperin Oniyere Commercial Grammar School, Orita-Aperin, Ibadan, have decried the dilapidation of the school structures and classrooms, calling on the state government intervention.

The stakeholders made their grievances known to pressmen, this Monday when reporter of difference medium paid on the spot assessment visit to the school.

The principals of the school who spoke with our pressmen on the status of anonymity cited long neglect and poor maintenance of the school as well as an inadequate grant from the government to the citadel of learning.

They further decried the lack of instructional materials, dearth of dedicated and qualified teachers, high increase in student population and poor remuneration, among other challenges faced by the school.

They added that they have written to the government many times on the state of the school while some demands have been met while they are yet to get a satisfactory response on the others.

In their remarks, teachers at the school, complained about inadequate furniture, saying that the chairs and desks in their classes are not only inadequate but old and rickety.
They also complained about the poor teacher-student ratio, which they put at one teacher to 40 students.
Some of the students who spoke with pressmen, confessed that poor infrastructure in the school has affected the quality of their education negatively.
They, therefore, called for the Oyo State Government’s quick intervention as they prepare to write the 2020 West Africa Examinations, WAEC.

While reacting to the grievances of the school, the caretaker chairman, Ibadan South East Local Government, whose jurisdiction covers the School, Hon. Oluwole Alawode said the plights of the school will be critically looking into and possible intervention will follow in due course.
You will recall that few days after the review of the Oyo State’s 2019 budget in which the budgetary allocation to education was increased from 3 to 10 percent, the State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has announced that budgetary allocation to the education sector will go up to 12 percent starting from the 2020 budget.
