In the global lexicon of football, the name “Lionel Messi” occupies a permanent place in history. His artistry, consistency, record-breaking exploits, and trophy-laden career have made him a symbol of excellence on the round leather pitch. Messi did not just play the game; he mastered it, redefining standards and inspiring generations.
Succinctly, Messi won the Ballon d’Or, the global award for the best footballer of the year, back-to-back for years, alongside countless other laurels. His dominance was not accidental; it was built on vision, discipline, preparation, and an unmatched ability to deliver results when it mattered most.
In politics, the same principle applies. Great leaders are not measured by rhetoric alone, but by artistry in service delivery, strategic deployment of resources, and the capacity to turn constituents’ aspirations into tangible realities. In this clime, the name that stands out with the same “Messi-like” political artistry and wherewithal is Hon. Engr. Dr. Aderemi Abas Oseni, member representing Ido/Ibarapa East Federal Constituency, Chairman of the House Committee on Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), and the All Progressives Congress APC candidate for Oyo South Senatorial District in the 2027 elections.
Hon. Abass Aderemi Oseni’s journey reflects political clarity and calculated advancement. His initial focus was the governorship seat of Oyo State. In 2023, he shifted his ambition toward the Oyo South Senatorial District. Still, destiny steered him into the Green Chamber of the House of Representatives for Ido/Ibarapa East Federal Constituency, where he has discharged his mandate with unprecedented impact.
Once again, ahead of 2027, Hon. Remi Oseni was prevailed upon to step down from the governorship race. In lieu of this, the APC hierarchy and the party’s tumultuous supporters offered him the Oyo South Senatorial District ticket. Since his nomination, he has become the stabilizing fulcrum of Oyo APC’s mission to reclaim the state, which has been under PDP control for over seven years. Opponents now see him as their political albatross, the benchmark they cannot match.
Without incontrovertible debate, Hon. Aderemi Abass Oseni has worn the jersey of being the “Lionel Messi” of Oyo South Senatorial District. The district spans nine Local Government Areas across Ibadan Urban and Ibarapa zones. Like Messi, who commands every department on the football pitch, Hon. Remi Oseni has all departments of the political pitch effectively manned: grassroots mobilization, legislative competence, infrastructural delivery, human capital development, and strategic party building.
As a savvy politician with deep experience and versatile connections across the state, he has continued to consolidate and expand the ROCOF caucus in every LGA. His political machinery is not accidental; it is the product of years of consistency, accessibility, and results.
To say Hon. Remi Oseni performed exceedingly well is an understatement. His record parades an interminable list of impacts across critical sectors:
1. Infrastructure: He has facilitated the rehabilitation and reconstruction of several kilometres of roads within Ido/Ibarapa East and beyond. He sunk solar-powered boreholes and lined up streets with solar-powered streetlights, directly improving security and quality of life.
2. Education: Huge educational intervention through the purchase and distribution of free WAEC and UTME forms for several students. This investment has reduced financial burden on parents and increased access to tertiary education.
3. Agriculture & Empowerment: Provision of fertilizers, mechanization support for farmers, and various empowerment schemes covering artisans and women’s groups running into hundreds of millions of naira. These initiatives have strengthened livelihoods and reduced poverty.
4. Health: Attraction of a Federal Medical Centre to the constituency, construction of health centres, and quick interventions on health matters have positioned him as a leader who understands that health is wealth.
5. Social Intervention: The “Soludero Food Bank” and youth employment and empowerment programmes have changed destinies for good, extending impact within and outside his Federal Constituency.
These numerous impacts form a scorecard that has endeared Hon. Remi Oseni to thousands of voters. They are not promises; they are completed projects and ongoing interventions that constituents see daily.
In football, victory is guaranteed when every department is manned by qualified players with the right tools. In Oyo South politics, Hon. Remi Oseni has positioned every department strategically. The electorate eager for his transition from the Green Chamber to the Red Chamber are not only direct beneficiaries, but also those who have heard the good tidings and look forward to benefiting in the near future.
Unfortunately, his opponents lack the record of these gigantic impacts. Their political pitch is incomplete, not equipped with the necessary tools to harness goals for victory. While Oseni continues to discharge dividends with equal magnanimity, opponents struggle to present comparable antecedents.
Hon. Dr. Aderemi Abass Oseni has, without unnecessary eulogy, long earned the trust and confidence of the electorate. The people do not need to wait for electioneering moments to know why they will cast their votes for an enigma who has identified with their needs and demands long before campaigns begin.
It is therefore true to say that Hon. Remi Oseni has the mastery of the political game. His opponents lack the electoral value and wherewithal to stand up and slug it out with a bulldozing Remi Oseni, whose base of anxious voters only see the Oyo South Senate mandate as appreciation for how well he has conducted himself in the public arena and private indulgence of impacting lives.
Kudos to our own political “Lionel Messi” of Oyo South Senate. By the grace of God, Masha Allah, he will emerge a Distinguished Senator in the Red Chamber of the 11th Senate, in continuation of guaranteed performance and representation for the good people of Oyo South, Ibadanland and Ibarapa zones in the Pacesetter State.
