The Member representing Ido/Ibarapa East Federal Constituency and Chairman, House Committee on Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Hon. Engr. Dr. Aderemi Abass Oseni, has donated the sum of Ten Million Naira (N10,000,000) to the Nigeria Society of Professional Tailors (NSPT) in support of the association’s 35th Anniversary celebration and its N300 Million Ultra Modern Multipurpose Hall project.

Hon. Oseni made the donation on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at the Recreation Club, Sabo, Mokola, Ibadan, where he was honoured as the Special Guest of Honour at the landmark event.

The colourful anniversary, which attracted a mammoth crowd of professional tailors from across Oyo State and beyond, alongside other dignitaries, traditional leaders and captains of industry.

Hon. Remi Oseni was joyfully received by the executives and members of the association, who sang and danced in celebration of his presence, describing him as a true friend of artisans and a performing federal lawmaker who has consistently identified with grassroots associations.

Addressing the gathering, Hon. Remi Oseni began his speech with fervent prayers for the success, prosperity, good health and well-being of all members of the NSPT and their families. He extended warm felicitations to the association on attaining 35 years of existence, describing it as 35 years of professionalism, resilience and contribution to economic development.

The lawmaker acknowledged that he faced several challenges and competing engagements in attending the occasion but stated that he considered the anniversary too important to miss, hence his decision to make it a priority to be physically present with the professional tailors.

According to him, being recognised as professional tailors is not a mere title but a distinction that reflects expertise, competence, qualification and high standards in the tailoring business. He stressed that professionalism is what separates successful practitioners from mere artisans.

In a deeply inspiring and emotional moment, Hon. Oseni recounted his humble beginnings to encourage the tailors. He narrated how he grew up as a village boy in Akufo, attended Akufo High School and had to travel to Ibadan every Friday to work as a bus conductor just to earn money for his upkeep and education.

He explained how he persevered, furthered his education through determination and hard work, and rose from those humble beginnings to become an Engineer, a Doctor and a Member of the House of Representatives.

Hon. Oseni used his personal journey to charge members of the NSPT never to underestimate their abilities, never to look down on their profession and never to abandon tailoring because of temporary economic challenges.

He noted that several of his friends and close associates who are today very successful and wealthy are professional tailors, stressing that their success was made possible because they believed in themselves, remained committed to their craft and embraced innovation.

Expressing concern over the growing trend of some youths and practitioners abandoning tailoring for commercial motorcycle transportation business, popularly known as Okada, Hon. Oseni urged members to recognise the enormous opportunities, dignity and financial prospects embedded in tailoring.

To buttress his point, the lawmaker used his own outfit as a practical example. He disclosed that the native attire he wore to the event was made by a graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, who after completing his university education, made the bold decision to return to learn tailoring professionally.

According to Hon. Remi Oseni, the young tailor has so repositioned and branded himself that he now charges sewing fees that are sometimes higher than the cost of the fabric itself, with customers queuing and willing to pay because of quality, creativity and professionalism.

He described the example as clear evidence that tailoring can become a highly rewarding, respectable and globally competitive profession when practitioners embrace quality service, creativity, neatness and proper business positioning.

He therefore urged members of the association to repackage themselves, believe in their capabilities, think ahead of time, improve their working environments and make their shops and offices more presentable and customer-friendly in order to attract high-profile clients and grow their businesses.

In the political segment of his address, Hon. Engr. Dr. Aderemi Abass Oseni appealed to members of the NSPT to continue to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) at all levels.

He specifically called on them to vote for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senator Sarafadeen Alli and all candidates of the APC contesting for House of Representatives and Oyo State House of Assembly seats in the forthcoming general elections.

Hon. Oseni expressed strong confidence that if elected, the APC candidates would deliver on their campaign promises and bring more dividends of democracy to the people of Oyo State and Nigeria at large.

The highlight of the occasion was the announcement of a Ten Million Naira (N10,000,000) donation by Hon. Oseni to the Nigeria Society of Professional Tailors to support the association and its vision for the ultra-modern multipurpose hall.

The executives of the NSPT, in their response, thanked Hon. Oseni for honouring their invitation and for his continuous support for the association, praying for his continued elevation in politics and service to humanity.

The 35th Anniversary celebration ended in an atmosphere of joy, unity and renewed commitment to professionalism among members of the Nigeria Society of Professional Tailors.
