A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress APC in Oyo State, Mr. Wakili Olasupo, has risen in stout defence of Mogaji Abass Oloko, describing the prominent Ibadan Chief and political commentator as a respected, intelligent and credible stakeholder in Ibadanland and Oyo State politics who cannot be dismissed with a wave of hand.
Olasupo’s reaction came following the latest wave of resignations that has hit the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde on Monday, and the attempt by the Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency [OYSROMA], Hon. Busoye Ogunlade, to discredit Oloko’s revelation about the suffering of appointees in the Makinde government.
It will be recalled that Mogaji Abass Oloko, in a podcast interview hosted by a journalist and published on YouTube on Sunday, had alleged that most appointees in Governor Makinde’s government are suffering in silence and living in terrible conditions.
Oloko, who protected the identity of the appointee, claimed that a serving two-term Commissioner in Makinde’s government sold his official car to fund the university education of one of his children who secured admission in a university in Ghana where tuition fee was not a burden.
He added that most of the appointees still defending the policies of Governor Makinde are not doing so with joy, but with sadness and pain in their hearts, and that the majority of those remaining are just bidding their time to abandon the ship.
In a swift reaction, the OYSROMA Chairman, Hon. Busoye Ogunlade, defended the Makinde administration, stating that appointees were appointed to serve and not to enrich themselves, and that salaries are paid as and when due. He listed projects such as the 65-kilometre Moniya-Iseyin Road, Iseyin-Ogbomoso Road, Ibadan Circular Road, and the upgrade of Ibadan Airport as evidence of Makinde’s prudent management.
But reacting in a statement made available to journalists in Ibadan on Monday, APC Chieftain Wakili Olasupo said Ogunlade’s defence was watery, diversionary and an insult to the suffering appointees.
“Hon. Busoye Ogunlade should be ashamed of himself. Mogaji Abass Oloko is not a small boy in Oyo State politics. He is a respected Mogaji in Ibadanland, an intelligent politician, a man who has seen it all. He knows what he is saying. He is not new in Oyo State politics. When Oloko speaks, he speaks with facts and with inside knowledge,” Olasupo declared.
“Oloko did not say roads are not being built. He said those you appointed to build the roads with you are suffering. Is it a lie? If they are not suffering, why are they resigning in droves like rats abandoning a sinking ship?”
Olasupo said the resignation of four more political appointees on Monday, barely 24 hours after Oloko’s revelation, has vindicated the Mogaji and exposed the failure of the Makinde administration to manage its own house.
On Monday, four more appointees tendered their resignation letters, bringing the total number of recent resignations to twelve. The affected officials are Mr. Afolabi Olusola Joshua, a member of the Oyo State Teaching Service Commission [TESCOM]; Mrs. Agbejimi Oladoja Rebecca, a member of the State Universal Basic Education Board [SUBEB]; Honourable Adeyanju Noah Olusola, Governing Council member of Michael Adeniyi Koleosho Polytechnic, Saki; and Adegbola Suleiman Abiodun, Supervisory Councilor in Ogbomosho South Local Government.
Their resignations, contained in separate letters dated October 19, 2026, came exactly one week after Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi resigned as Chief of Staff to the governor, and after the resignation of ex-Compol Fatai Owoseni, Hon. Babatunde Oduyoye, Mrs. Funmi Arulogun, Tara Adefope and others.
“Today alone, four people resigned. Last week, Chief of Staff resigned. Security Adviser resigned. Diaspora Matters aide resigned. Due Process DG resigned. Is that also propaganda? Twelve resignations in less than two weeks is not a coincidence; it is a clear vote of no confidence in Governor Makinde’s leadership style. It confirms what Oloko said that people are suffering in silence and are just waiting for the appropriate time to leave,” the APC Chieftain stated.
Olasupo lambasted Ogunlade for comparing road projects with welfare of appointees, saying governance is not only about pouring asphalt.
“You cannot defend hunger with roads. A Commissioner who has served for two terms selling his official car to pay his child’s school fees in Ghana, a country where school fees is even cheaper, is a big shame and a big indictment on this government that claims to be paying salaries as and when due. If salaries are paid, why sell a car to pay school fees? What is the salary that cannot pay Ghana school fees?”
“Governor Makinde has turned respected political leaders to beggars. He appoints them, he does not empower them, he does not fund their offices, and he expects them to be clapping for him on social media with sadness and pain in their hearts. That era of sycophancy is over.”
The APC Chieftain further alleged that the Makinde administration has prioritised propaganda over the welfare of its own foot soldiers, and warned that more resignations are imminent.
“The truth is that Governor Seyi Makinde has failed his own people. If you cannot take care of your own appointees, how will you take care of 8 million people of Oyo State? Mogaji Oloko has said the truth. Instead of attacking him, the government should look inward and address the rot.”
“2027 is coming. Oyo people are watching. When your own kitchen is on fire, you don’t chase rats outside,” Olasupo concluded.
