“If Elected Senator, I Will Empower 200 Youths With N1m Each”

The lawmaker representing Ido/Ibarapa East Federal Constituency and the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate for Oyo South Senatorial District, Hon. Engr. Dr. Aderemi Abas Oseni, popularly known as the Star Boy, on Saturday, continued his grassroots consultation tour with a visit to Ayankoya Community, Ward 9, in Ibadan South-West Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The town hall engagement, which is part of his ongoing community-by-community consultation ahead of the 2027 general elections, attracted a large turnout of stakeholders, community leaders, elders, women, youth groups, artisans and party faithful who defied the afternoon sun to receive the federal lawmaker.

Among the prominent leaders present at the meeting were Hon. Taiwo Ade, Hon. Abimbola Abogun, the revered community elder, Pa. S.K. Fashewa, Hon. Bayo Adekoye, Hon. Adeyemo and other ward executives, women leaders and youth coordinators. The atmosphere was charged as residents welcomed Hon. Remi Oseni with chants, songs and solidarity messages, reaffirming their support for his senatorial ambition.

In his address on behalf of the community, the Chairman of Ayankoya Community Development Association listed the pressing infrastructural needs of the area and appealed to the senatorial hopeful for intervention. The demands include a 500KVA transformer to address epileptic power supply, 150 solar-powered streetlights to improve security at night, functional community healthcare centres and solar-powered boreholes to solve the perennial water scarcity.

Also speaking, Architect Samuel Adesanya, who spoke on behalf of the Association of Printers in the community, commended Hon. Remi Oseni for his track record of community development and philanthropy, describing him as a leader whose impact is felt beyond politics. He pledged the unalloyed support of his association for Remi Oseni’s aspiration to represent Oyo South in the Senate.

In the same vein, a youth representative, Mr. Abdulazeez, urged residents, particularly young people, to take active part in the electoral process and support candidates with proven competence. He said the future of Oyo South depends on electing a senator who understands the challenges of the youth.

Hon. Folake Olunloyo-Oshinlowo, while addressing the gathering, canvassed massive support for all APC candidates in the 2027 elections, noting that the party remains the only credible platform for development. Pa. S.K. Fashewa, in his remarks, also appealed to all sons and daughters of Ayankoya and Ward 9 at large to rally behind the APC and its candidates from top to bottom.

Responding, Hon. Remi Oseni, who started his remarks with songs of thanksgiving and prayers to God, expressed deep appreciation to the people of Ayankoya for the warm and rousing reception accorded him and his entourage.

He described his visit to Ayankoya as a homecoming, disclosing that he has strong roots in both Ido Local Government and Ibadan South-West Local Government, and therefore considers Ayankoya as his own home.

The federal lawmaker recounted his humble beginning in business and public service, revealing that immediately after his National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, programme, he ventured into private business and through that initiative, created direct employment opportunities for more than 500 youths across Oyo State. He said his experience in the private sector taught him the value of hard work, job creation and economic empowerment.

Hon. Remi Oseni also used the occasion to reel out what he termed his modest constituency interventions before and after his election into the House of Representatives in 2023.

According to him, even before becoming a lawmaker, he had facilitated the construction of four health centres, distributed 10 transformers to various communities, constructed 11 rural roads and three bridges, provided over 20 boreholes and built two blocks of classrooms to improve access to education.

He further stated that since his election as the member representing Ido/Ibarapa East Federal Constituency, he has distributed 32 transformers, built three schools, awarded scholarships to indigent students, paid for 1,500 JAMB forms and 2,000 WAEC forms for youths in his constituency, constructed nine rural and urban roads and empowered 82 youths with N1 million each to start their own businesses. He added that 11 other roads are currently under construction across the federal constituency.

Speaking on his agenda for Oyo South if elected as Senator, Hon. Remi Oseni promised to scale up his empowerment programmes. He pledged to empower 200 youths across the senatorial district with N1 million each as start-up capital, in addition to creating more opportunities for women and artisans through his ROCOF Foundation and legislative interventions.

On the specific requests of Ayankoya Community, the APC senatorial candidate assured the residents of immediate action. He promised to provide the requested 150 solar-powered streetlights, facilitate the grading of all internal roads in the community and deploy technical experts to survey the entire Ayankoya area for the provision of five solar-powered boreholes.

He also explained his passion for supporting market women with small grants, noting that his late mother was once a market woman who struggled to raise capital. According to him, many market women only need modest financial support to expand their businesses and cater for their families, hence his regular intervention for traders.

He described the monetary donations he makes during community visits not as political inducement but as a token of appreciation to residents who sacrifice their time and leave their daily engagements to receive him.

The high point of the engagement was the presentation of an undisclosed cash donation by Hon. Oseni to the Ayankoya community to support its immediate needs, which attracted loud applause and chants of “Star Boy” from the crowd.

The meeting ended with prayers for the peace and progress of Ibadan South-West, Oyo State and Nigeria at large.
