The commitment of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to grassroots development and artisan empowerment received a major boost yesterday as Hon Engr. Dr. Aderemi Abas Oseni, member representing Ido /Ibarapa East federal constituency, and the All Progressives Congress Candidate for Oyo South Senatorial District, met with members of the Ibadan & Area Carpenters’ Association at Ita-Olukoyi, Oranyan, Labo, Ibadan.
The century-old association, established 100 years ago, is widely regarded as one of the oldest and most respected artisan bodies in Ibadan, with a rich history of contributing to the economic and infrastructural development of the city.
Hon. Remi Oseni, who was received by the Association’s President, Pa. Odeyemi Joseph, and other executive members, described the engagement as a refreshing family gathering centered on politics, governance, and the welfare of the people.
“It was an opportunity to speak openly with my fathers and brothers about the things that matter most to our people. I was deeply encouraged by their genuine love, support, and appreciation for what we have been doing, as well as their firm commitment to our collective aspiration for a better Oyo South and the success of our APC candidates,” Hon. Oseni stated.
In a significant recognition of his contributions to engineering and community development, the lawmaker was conferred with the chieftaincy title of Governor-General of the Ibadan & Area Carpenters’ Association. Hon. Oseni noted that the honour was particularly meaningful to him, given his professional background as a Civil and Structural Engineer.

A key highlight of the meeting was the association’s appeal for modern equipment to support cabinet making and joinery. The artisans emphasized that access to modern tools would improve the quality of their work, enable them to compete favourably in today’s market, and create more economic opportunities for their families.
Responding to the request, Hon. Remi Oseni assured the association that the need has been duly considered and integrated into his ongoing empowerment agenda.
“I am glad to announce that, by the grace of God, our empowerment programme will be extended to deserving members of the Ibadan & Area Carpenters’ Association across the nine local government areas of Oyo South Senatorial District,” he said.
The lawmaker reiterated that true leadership is rooted in listening to the people, identifying genuine needs, and taking practical steps to improve lives. He pledged that his engagement with grassroots groups across Oyo South would continue in order to build a stronger, more prosperous, and inclusive senatorial district.
The meeting further demonstrates the APC’s strategy of deepening ties with trade associations and artisan groups ahead of the 2027 general elections, by aligning governance with the real needs of the people at the grassroots.
The event ended with prayers, solidarity pledges, and renewed commitment by the carpenters to support progressive leadership in Oyo State.
