A disturbing incident involving the President of the Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku Student Union Government (SUG) and officers from the Nigeria Police Force has sparked outrage and raised concerns about police brutality and corruption. The SUG President alleged that police officers attached to the Ogwashi-Uku division demanded a bribe of N500 from him, and when he refused, they slapped and assaulted him.
According to the SUG President, the incident occurred when police officers stopped his vehicle and demanded the bribe. When he refused to comply, the officers responded violently, threatening to shoot him and eventually firing a shot into the air, which hit his vehicle. The SUG President recorded the incident and shared it on social media, calling the officers “criminals” and demanding justice.

The Delta State Police Command has confirmed that an investigation into the incident is underway. However, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, has also defended the officers, stating that the SUG President’s allegations remain unverified and criticizing his hostile behavior towards the police.
Edafe noted that while the police command is investigating the incident, the SUG President’s language and behavior should not be encouraged. He also confirmed that the officer involved in the incident has been detained.
This incident has raised concerns about police brutality and corruption in Nigeria, with many calling for accountability and justice. The outcome of the investigation will be closely watched, and it remains to be seen what actions will be taken to address the allegations and ensure that the rights of citizens are protected.
