Former Oyo State Governor and Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, has vehemently denied allegations made by former Osun State Governor, Chief Bisi Akande, suggesting that he had vital information about the unresolved assassination case of former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Chief Bola Ige. Ladoja stated that while speaking with journalists at his residence at Ondo Street, Bodija, Ibadan, that he never obstructed justice in the murder case and had provided full support to the prosecution, even up to the Supreme Court.
Akande’s recent claims, made in an interview with veteran broadcaster Edmund Obilo, sparked fresh controversy and Ladoja was quick to dismiss them. He emphasized that he did not know the case beyond publicly available information and warned that he would consider all possible actions, including legal steps, unless Akande retracts his statement and issues a public apology.
Ladoja highlighted that he became governor 18 months after Ige’s assassination, which occurred on December 23, 2001, and that his government did not withdraw any case related to the murder. In fact, the case was prosecuted up to the Supreme Court. He also noted that Chief Akande’s allegations were not new, as others, including Baba Adebanjo, had accused Akande of lying in the past.
Ladoja expressed his concern about Ige’s death, stating that he was very close to the former Minister while he was alive. He emphasized that everyone is concerned about Ige’s death and that it’s essential to uncover the truth behind the assassination.
The assassination of Chief Bola Ige remains a significant unresolved case in Nigeria’s history. Ige was a prominent lawyer, politician, and former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. His death led to widespread outrage and calls for justice, but the case remains unsolved to this day.
