In a major economic intervention ahead of the 2027 general elections, the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate for Oyo South Senatorial District, Hon. Engr. Dr. Aderemi Abass Oseni, on Saturday unveiled a N90 million support package for motor parts dealers at the popular Araromi Gate Market in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The intervention, which combined interest-free loans, direct grants, and critical infrastructure, is being described by political observers as one of the largest single private sector-focused empowerment drives by a federal lawmaker in the state this year.
Hon. Remi Oseni, who currently represents Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and the Chairman House Committee on Federal Road Maintenance Agency FERMA, announced the package on Saturday during a town hall engagement with traders and market leaders at Araromi Gate.
According to him, the support package is divided into two major components:
A N50 million interest-free revolving loan to help traders expand inventory and working capital
A N40 million non-repayable grant as empowerment support for traders across the four major sections of the market car, lorry, tyre, and iron
In addition to the financial support, the lawmaker also donated 100 solar-powered streetlights to the market and pledged to personally take responsibility for the monthly salaries of the market’s Baale and chiefs to ensure effective administration and security.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Aderemi Abass Oseni stated that the intervention was specifically targeted at micro and small-scale entrepreneurs, who form the backbone of Ibadan’s commercial ecosystem.
“The motor parts dealers are critical drivers of the local economy. We must continue to support them so that they can expand their businesses, improve their livelihoods and contribute more to the economy,” he said.
He explained that the N50 million revolving loan would be disbursed without interest and managed in phases to ensure sustainability, while the N40 million grant would be distributed equitably across the four sections of the market.
On the solar lights, Hon. Remi Oseni noted that the project was aimed at improving security, reducing crime, and extending business hours within the market.
“When you light up a market, you light up businesses. Traders can stay longer, customers can come safely, and the economy grows,” he added.
Political Mobilization for APC and Tinubu
Beyond the economic support, the APC senatorial candidate used the platform to mobilize the traders ahead of 2027.
He called on the market community to continue supporting the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, arguing that the Federal Government’s economic reforms were beginning to yield positive results for businesses and the masses.
Hon. Remi Oseni also appealed for bloc support for APC candidates in Oyo State, expressing confidence that the party would reclaim its dominance in the state.
“With your support, with your votes, and with your prayers, APC will win convincingly in Oyo State. We are building a party that delivers,” he said.
The Chairman of Araromi Gate Market Motor Parts Dealers, Alhaji Ojo Azeez, commended Hon. Aderemi Abass Oseni for what he described as consistent commitment to the development of Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency and beyond.
“We believe in your achievements so far. By the grace of Almighty God, you shall defeat your opponents hands down,” Azeez declared to applause from traders.
Chairmen of the four sections of the market car, lorry, tyre, and iron also pledged their loyalty to Hon. Remi Oseni, President Tinubu, and all APC candidates in the forthcoming elections.
The Baale of the market, Alhaji Raimi Ewebiyi, alongside other traditional leaders and representatives of various groups within the market, attended the engagement.
Political analysts note that Hon. Aderemi Abass Oseni’s intervention at Araromi Gate is strategically significant. Araromi is one of Ibadan’s largest auto parts hubs, with thousands of traders, artisans, and transport operators whose votes can influence the outcome of the Oyo South Senatorial District election.
By combining direct cash support with infrastructure and welfare commitments, Hon. Remi Oseni is positioning himself as a candidate focused on economic empowerment and grassroots development, a message the APC hopes will resonate across the nine local governments in Oyo South.
With this move, the race for the Oyo South Senatorial seat has gained fresh momentum, as the APC intensifies outreach to key market and artisan communities ahead of 2027.
