Former Minister of Communication, Hon Bayo Shittu has said that he is the number one supporter of the ruling party, All Progressives Congress APC in Southwest Nigeria, noting that nobody in the region has promoted APC more than he has done.
Shittu made this comment while featuring on a radio programme tagged political circuit with Isaac Brown on fresh 105.9 fm Ibadan while also debunking the rumours that he couldn’t win his ward and local government for the party.
He asserted that the news of him losing his ward is a cheap blackmail by political opponents while boasting that his ward and local government had the best results for the party in the last presidential election.
While commenting on the recent brouhaha being witnessed in the Oyo APC, Shittu who had earlier alleged that his group wasn’t included in the composition of the party’s zoning committee termed the move as a fraudulent one by some tiny minority to hijack the party from the overwhelming majority.
He said that what led to the recent fracas in the party was due to what he referred to as treachery on the part of Otunba Alao Akala (with whom the unity forum has earlier reached an agreement to constitute a 26 man committee on zoning formulae with 13 members from the Unity forum and 13 from the senaco), the constitution of a 9man committee on zoning formular inclusive of two unity forum members.
He accuse Otunba Akala and his SENACO group of being insincere and a set of backstabbers who couldn’t altruistically and sincerely maintained the agreement that was earlier made.
“Akala called us (Ayo Adesun, Fatai Buhari and myself) to meeting where he showed us a zoning formular allegedly drafted by some unnamed party bigwigs . We outrightly rejected the formular but agreed to constitute a 26man Committee that would sit on the zoning formular. However, just some days ago we heard that Otunba Akala has announced a 9 man committee with two members of the unity forum which we never authorized”, he said.
Shittu said that the problem about APC is not really about APC but about Nigerians. “Nigerians are always find it difficult to to do things right”, he said.
“People deserve the leadership they breed. He maintained that people aren’t interested in good governance but rather in what they will eat, such that if a person has the best ideas but doesn’t have money, his prospect is so limited. People want the immediate meal not what will sustain them and their family over time”, Shittu maintained.
He added that all his fight since he has joined politics has always been against impunity and against refusal to do things right.
