The leadership of the Allied People’s Movement, APM, in Ona Ara Local Government Area on Sunday unanimously endorsed the incumbent Council Chairman, Hon. Temitope Kolapo, popularly known as Glorious, as the party’s consensus chairmanship candidate for the forthcoming local government elections in Oyo State.
The endorsement was formalized on Sunday, August 2, 2026, during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the APM Party Secretariat in Ona Ara. Party leaders across the local government converged to affirm their support for continuity and people-centred governance in the council.
In a move aimed at projecting unity within the party, 16 prominent leaders and stakeholders signed the consensus document, pledging their total backing for Hon. Temitope Kolapo to fly the APM flag in the next chairmanship contest.
Speaking on the rationale behind the endorsement, the leaders noted that Hon. Kolapo’s tenure has been marked by visible developmental strides, inclusiveness, and commitment to the welfare of the people of Ona Ara.
They emphasized that adopting him through consensus, rather than a divisive contest, was intended to strengthen internal cohesion and present a united front ahead of the polls.

The list cuts across political blocs, traditional leaders, women and youth representatives, reflecting what the leaders described as broad-based support for the incumbent chairman within the APM structure in Ona Ara.
Party stakeholders described Hon. Temitope Kolapo as a leader who has demonstrated capacity, humility, and a clear understanding of grassroots governance. They stressed that endorsing him was in the best interest of the local government to consolidate ongoing projects and ensure sustainable development across all wards.
The consensus meeting was described as peaceful and orderly, with leaders urging party members and supporters to remain united and work collectively toward victory for the APM in Ona Ara.
However, the consensus decision has sparked disagreement within the party.
Some chairmanship aspirants have rejected the endorsement of Hon. Temitope Kolapo as the consensus candidate. Those who distanced themselves from the resolution include the incumbent Vice Chairman and Head of the Local Council Development Area, LCDA, Hon. Windapo Oluwole, Mr. Nurudeen Balogun, and other aspirants.
The dissenting aspirants argued that due process was not followed and maintained that the matter should be determined by a wider consultation of party members.
They disclosed that the case has now been referred to the APM State Secretariat for final decision, insisting that the state leadership should intervene to ensure fairness, equity and adherence to the party’s constitution.
The development has introduced a new dimension to the chairmanship race in Ona Ara, as the party now faces the challenge of reconciling the positions of its leaders and aspirants ahead of the election.
While the endorsement by local leaders positions the APM as a clear front-runner, the rejection by key aspirants suggests that internal consultations will be critical in the days ahead.
With the matter now before the state secretariat, stakeholders are awaiting the party’s final pronouncement on the candidature for Ona Ara Local Government.
As the dust settles, all eyes will remain on how the APM navigates the internal dynamics to present a united and credible candidate for the upcoming local government elections.
