IBADAN — The Member representing Ido/Ibarapa East Federal Constituency, Chairman, House Committee on Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), and All Progressives Congress (APC) Candidate for Oyo South Senatorial District in the 2027 General Elections, Hon. Aderemi Abas Oseni, today paid an official sympathy visit to traders and stakeholders of the historic Bode Market, Ibadan, following the devastating fire outbreak that occurred last week Friday.

The inferno, which broke out overnight on Friday, July 3, 2026, swept through the bustling market, destroying shops, traditional herbs, medicinal products, and other valuable goods worth millions of naira. The disaster left many traders in tears, reducing years of hard work, sacrifice, and lifelong investments to ashes.

During the visit, Hon. Remi Oseni commiserated with the victims and described the incident as a painful loss to the commercial lifeline of Ibadan.

“I am here today not just as a lawmaker in the National Assembly, but as a brother and stakeholder who feels your pain. This fire has taken away livelihoods and dreams built over many years. But you are not alone. We stand with you in this trying moment,” Hon. Remi Oseni stated.

As part of immediate intervention, Hon. Remi Oseni announced a donation of ₦20 million to support affected traders. He explained that the funds are intended to provide seed capital for restocking, assist families whose shops were destroyed, and support market leaders in coordinating the rebuilding process.

He further pledged to engage relevant federal agencies, including the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), to explore additional avenues of support for the victims.

Hon. Remi Oseni also called for urgent improvements in fire prevention and safety standards across all major markets in Oyo State. He urged market leadership to collaborate with government agencies to install firefighting equipment and enforce safety regulations to prevent future occurrences.

“We must turn this tragedy into an opportunity to rebuild a safer, more organized, and more resilient Bode Market for present and future generations,” he added.

Responding on behalf of the traders, the market executives expressed profound gratitude to Hon. Remi Oseni for his prompt visit and generous support.

“We are short of words. Since the fire on Friday, this is one of the most impactful interventions we have received. The ₦20 Million donation has given us renewed hope. May God bless and reward you abundantly,” the executives said.

Affected traders also prayed for God’s guidance and success for Hon. Oseni in his aspiration to represent Oyo South Senatorial District in 2027.

The visit was attended by APC leaders, ward executives, youth and community stakeholders from Ido, Ibarapa East, and Ibadan South-West Local Government Areas.

Hon. Aderemi Abas Oseni reaffirmed his commitment to people-centered representation and to working with all stakeholders to restore Bode Market to its pride of place as one of Ibadan’s foremost commercial hubs.
