…Says Renewed Hope Is Working, Pledges More Support for Arts, Culture and Grassroots Development
The campaign atmosphere in Oyo State took a cultural dimension on Tuesday as the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate for Oyo South Senatorial District, Hon. Engr. Dr. Aderemi Abass Oseni, was honoured with a grand cultural reception by members of the Association of Nigeria Theatre Arts Practitioners, ANTP, Oyo State Chapter.
The meeting, held in Ibadan, featured a short drama performance, traditional dance session, and heartfelt goodwill messages as theatre practitioners formally declared support for Hon. Oseni’s senatorial ambition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a major highlight of the engagement, Hon. Oseni announced a donation of ₦10,000,000 to support the growth, welfare, and developmental projects of the association.
Welcoming the lawmaker, the State Governor of ANTP, Mr. Mukailu Ariyo, praised Hon. Oseni for his consistent contributions to community development and youth advancement across Oyo State.
He noted that the association’s decision to identify with the APC candidate was informed by his visible impact and philanthropic record.
Present at the event were notable figures including veteran actor and cultural icon, Chief Lere Paimo, MFR, popularly known as Baba Eda Onileola; veteran actress, Mrs. Anike Bola Obot; former Commissioner for Environment, Chief Lowo Obisesan; and several other theatre practitioners.
Mrs. Obot, in her remarks, described Hon. Oseni as a rare breed of leader whose generosity transcends politics.
“I have long heard of Hon Oseni’s altruism and philanthropic gestures. He deserves to be contesting for the governorship role. His efforts and kind gestures will certainly be repaid with electoral victories,” she said.
Chief Lowo Obisesan, APC chieftain, also urged members of ANTP and the general public to mobilize support for Hon. Oseni, expressing confidence that he would deliver more dividends of democracy if elected.
Responding, Hon. Aderemi Abass Oseni, who is also a Lawmaker representing Ido/Ibarapa East federal constituency and Chairman, House Committee on Federal Roads Maintenance Agency FERMA expressed appreciation to the theatre veterans, especially Baba Eda Onileola, and prayed for the leadership of ANTP, including Madam Anike Bola Obot.
He used the platform to account for his stewardship as the representative of Ido/Ibarapa East Federal Constituency and Chairman, House Committee on Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, FERMA.
The lawmaker disclosed that his interventions have cut across education, youth empowerment, infrastructure and rural development.
According to him, he has facilitated the payment of free JAMB and WAEC fees for indigent students, constructed and renovated schools, and executed several infrastructural projects in both urban and rural communities.
“In the area of youth development, we recently empowered about 80 youths with ₦1 million each to enable them to either undergo capacity-building training or establish their own businesses. This is part of our commitment to reducing unemployment and building the next generation of entrepreneurs,” he said.
Hon. Remi Oseni added that his philanthropic efforts have also extended to power sector support through the donation of transformers to communities to improve electricity supply, with beneficiaries drawn not only from Ido/Ibarapa East but also across Ibadan and other parts of Oyo State.
Speaking on national issues, Hon. Remi Oseni commended the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, for what he described as courageous and transformative reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He specifically addressed the removal of fuel subsidy, noting that the policy had exposed and reduced decades of corruption in the petroleum sector.
“In our international airports, there were more private jets than commercial airplanes because of the massive corruption going on in the oil industry under the subsidy regime. But with the removal of subsidy, there is now less illegality in the business and scarcity of petroleum products has greatly reduced,” he said.
The APC candidate further stated that governors across the country are now more consistent with salary payments and that more developmental projects, especially road infrastructure across the South-West, have been awarded under the Tinubu administration.
He vowed that he and the APC governorship candidate, Senator Sarafadeen Alli, will continue to support ANTP towards securing a befitting secretariat and meeting point for the association.
Hon. Remi Oseni urged members of ANTP and residents of Oyo South to come out en masse and vote for the APC in the 2027 elections, assuring them of more inclusive governance and grassroots-oriented projects.
He announced the ₦10 million donation to ANTP as part of his commitment to the growth of arts, culture and the creative economy in the state. The donation was received with applause, songs of solidarity and prayers from the theatre practitioners.
The engagement ended on a note of unity, with ANTP leaders pledging to mobilize their members and fan base across Oyo State for the APC in 2027.
The meeting further strengthened the growing alliance between the creative industry and the APC as political activities gather momentum across Oyo State.
