Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle (DON), the federal lawmaker representing Ibadan North Federal Constituency, has reiterated his commitment to democratic ideals and declared unwavering support for Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, following the communiqué issued at the Opposition Political Parties National Summit held in Ibadan.
This position was conveyed in a press statement made available to journalists by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Akinwale Bodija, shortly after the summit.
According to the statement, Hon. Oyekunle aligned with key resolutions of the opposition leaders, particularly the need to safeguard Nigeria’s multi-party democracy, ensure credible electoral processes, and uphold the rights of all political stakeholders.
He emphasized that Nigeria must not be allowed to slide into a one-party system, noting that democracy thrives on inclusivity, fairness, and strong institutions capable of delivering free, fair, and transparent elections.
The lawmaker further stressed that electoral integrity remains paramount, calling on all relevant institutions to act in ways that strengthen public confidence and national unity.
Reaffirming his political stance, Hon. Oyekunle declared his loyalty to Governor Seyi Makinde, stating that his decisions and political direction remain aligned with that of the governor.
“Wherever His Excellency Engr. Seyi Makinde goes and whatever position he adopts in the interest of the people and the preservation of democracy, Hon. Oyekunle stands firmly with him,” the statement read.
He concluded by urging Nigerians to remain steadfast in defending democratic values, noting that collective responsibility is essential in shaping a more inclusive and stable political future for the country.
