Continuity in government (CIG) is the principle of formulating a well structured procedure that allows a government to continue it’s essential operations and activities which will directly impact the citizenry irrespective of political affiliations pre and post transition.
The need for continuity in government can never be over-emphasized in this critical time as history has it that when government is changing, incumbent tend to abandon many projects initiated by their predecessors and this no doubt always have negative effects on the development of the state or country as the case may be. We are not unaware that masses are always at the receiving end.
Apparently, His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde adopted CIG immediately he was sworn in and this is evident in some of the projects he just commissioned and other healthy policies which was introduced by his predecessor- Senator Ajimobi. These policies cut across all sectors.
It’s however pertinent to state that, GSM only absorbed exceptional policies that aligns with his set goals, thereby administratively cancelling unhealthy one which after due process prove to lack human face. A vivid example is the various policies in the educational sector which was counter-productive as it escalates number of out of school children in the state while enriching government’s coffer. Many thanks to GSM for his swift intervention after swearing in.
On 26th August, 2019, Governor Seyi Makinde said: “I am always in constant communication with my predecessor, Sen. Abiola Ajimobi, over the past administration’s policies in the overall interest of the people of the state.”
GSM disclosed this while playing host to a delegation from the Foursquare Gospel Church which paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Ibadan. He further explained that it is the responsibility of any administration to provide good governance, adding that his government would not hesitate to sustain any good policy of his predecessor in the bid to enhance the living standard of the people.
How best can you define a people-centric and selfless leader other than this? I wonder why ill-informed members from the opposition are condemning his decision to adopt CIG.
Shamefully, they are celebrating Lagos and Ogun state Governors despite the fact that they also adopted the same strategy.
Is it because GSM belongs to another political party?
Funny enough, they are still struggling to give answer to the question I have been asking for months. May I use this opportunity to ask the same question again, who knows, they may be tempted to respond this time around for record purpose.
Should GSM abandon all projects initiated by his predecessor?
I think it’s high time we discontinue all these belief of “I must initiate my own projects or I must bring fresh policies” and adopt Continuity in Governance (CIG) for the amelioration of our state.
Interestingly, GSM has set the pace, I will advise other level of government to emulate his approach in order to activate good governance. I called it “one million lives strategy”.
God bless Nigeria, God Oyo State, God bless GSM.
Happy one year celebration, wishing our state more productive years ahead.
