Ibadan, Oyo State – Tuesday, April 14, 2026 – In the wake of heightened political speculations and deliberate misinterpretations trailing recent consultations in Oyo State, Sola Ladoja, son of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has provided a comprehensive clarification regarding the courtesy visit of the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, to the revered monarch.

The clarification, which comes amid a politically charged atmosphere, seeks to set the records straight and defuse growing tensions fueled by distorted narratives suggesting the existence of an impeachment plot or financial inducement targeted at the administration of His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, FNSE, Executive Governor of Oyo State.

Addressing the controversy generated by his earlier remarks, Sola Ladoja explained that his reference to “receipts” was wrongly construed in certain quarters to imply monetary transactions. He emphasized that the term was used strictly in the context of conversations and verbal exchanges, and not in relation to any form of payment, inducement, or quid pro quo. According to him, the interpretation linking his statement to financial dealings is both erroneous and mischievous.

While acknowledging that the meeting between the Speaker and the Olubadan had a political undertone, Sola Ladoja was emphatic that the engagement had no connection whatsoever with any plan to impeach Governor Makinde, nor did it involve coordination with opposition elements. He categorically stated that there was no agenda involving the opposition party, no exchange of money, and no discussion aimed at removing the Governor from office.

Providing further insight, he disclosed that he facilitated the meeting at the instance of Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, who had approached him to seek the blessings and counsel of the Olubadan in line with Yoruba tradition and respect for the institution of the monarchy. He noted that such consultations are routine, statesmanlike, and consistent with the cultural ethos of Ibadanland, especially when public office holders are considering future political aspirations.

Sola Ladoja, however, cautioned political actors, commentators, and the general public against weaponizing routine consultations to overheat the polity. He warned that deliberate misrepresentations and sensationalism are capable of escalating tensions and undermining the peace, stability, and progress currently being enjoyed under the Makinde-led administration. He called for restraint, maturity, and fidelity to facts in public discourse.

This clarification aligns with earlier rebuttals by key stakeholders in the Oyo State House of Assembly. Hon. Waheed Akintayo also known as Ilumoka presenter, Member representing Oluyole State Constituency, had previously dismissed reports linking him and other lawmakers to secret meetings designed to impeach the Governor. Describing the allegations as baseless and the handiwork of mischief-makers, Hon Waheed Akintayo also rejected claims of financial inducements allegedly running into hundreds of millions of naira, reaffirming that lawmakers remain steadfastly committed to the mandate freely given to Governor Seyi Makinde by the people of Oyo State.

Political observers within and outside the state are of the view that Sola Ladoja’s intervention is timely and may significantly douse the prevailing tension. They note that while political consultations are a legitimate and necessary component of democratic engagement, the manner of public interpretation often determines whether such engagements strengthen or strain the polity. The consensus is that transparency and prompt clarifications, such as this, are critical to sustaining public confidence.

The leadership of the 10th Oyo State House of Assembly has consistently maintained that it remains focused on legislative duties, constitutional order, and constructive partnership with the executive arm to deliver good governance to the people of Oyo State.

The call, therefore, is for all stakeholders to prioritize the collective interest of Oyo State above partisan intrigues. Peace, stability, and continuity of development remain non-negotiable.
