The Director-General of the Oyo State Liaison Office, Abuja and Lagos, Hon. Busari Olayemi, has felicitated with the good people of Oyo State and Nigerians at home and in the diaspora on the occasion of Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
In his Independence Day message made available to newsmen on Thursday, Hon. Olayemi described October 1st as a historic and sacred day in the annals of Nigeria, noting that 66 years after independence from British colonial rule in 1960, the country has remained united, resilient and full of great potentials despite daunting challenges.
He said the anniversary calls for deep reflection, sober appreciation of the sacrifices of the founding fathers and renewed commitment to the ideals of unity, peace, justice and collective progress upon which the nation was founded.
“Today, we celebrate 66 years of our nationhood. We celebrate the courage of our heroes past, the resilience of our people and the unbreakable spirit of unity that has kept us together as one indivisible nation,” Hon. Olayemi stated.
The Oyo State Liaison DG, who is also a chieftain and close ally of the Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Engr. Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, FNSE, praised Nigerians for their patience, hard work and unflinching faith in the Nigerian project, even in the face of economic and security challenges.
According to him, Nigerians are industrious, creative and enterprising people whose contributions across the globe continue to make the country proud.
He urged citizens, particularly the youth, to continue to believe in Nigeria and to channel their energies towards productive ventures that would accelerate national development.
Hon. Olayemi used the occasion to eulogize the exemplary leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde in Oyo State, describing his administration as a model of people-oriented, transparent and sustainable governance.
He noted that under Governor Makinde, Oyo State has witnessed massive infrastructural renewal, unprecedented reforms in education, healthcare and agribusiness, as well as a secured environment that has become a reference point in the country.
“Governor Seyi Makinde has shown what is possible when leadership is driven by vision, competence and genuine love for the people. What he has done in Oyo State is a clear demonstration of what Nigeria can achieve if we get leadership right at the national level,” he said.
Speaking on the growing national clamour for quality leadership ahead of the 2027 presidential contest, Hon. Olayemi said many Nigerians across the six geo-political zones now see Governor Makinde as a credible, capable and cosmopolitan leader who has the capacity to reposition Nigeria.
He disclosed that Governor Makinde’s aspiration to contest for the post of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria under the platform of the Allied People’s Movement, APM, has continued to generate excitement and hope among Nigerians who are yearning for a departure from the old order.
According to him, the APM, with its progressive ideology and people-first manifesto, provides a veritable platform for Governor Makinde to offer Nigeria a fresh start, built on economic prosperity, national unity, restructuring in the interest of fairness, youth empowerment and security of lives and property.
“At 66, Nigeria needs a unifier, a builder and a man with proven track record of performance. In Engr. Seyi Makinde, we have a leader who has governed with empathy, built with quality and led with integrity. His presidential aspiration under the APM is not just about Oyo State, it is about rescuing Nigeria and restoring her glory,” Hon. Olayemi declared.
The Liaison Office DG called on Nigerians to use the 66th Independence Anniversary to renew their commitment to unity, peace and patriotism, stressing that no nation can develop in an atmosphere of division, hatred and disunity.
He urged political leaders at all levels to prioritize good governance, accountability and inclusive development, adding that the future of Nigeria depends on the choices made today.
He prayed for continued peace, progress and prosperity for Oyo State and Nigeria, and wished all Nigerians a happy and memorable 66th Independence Anniversary celebration.
Signed:
Hon. Busari Olayemi
