In a ceremony that underscored the growing partnership between academia and industry, the management of Osun State University, UNIOSUN, on Thursday formally presented the instrument of appointment to Mrs. Victoria Samson, Group Managing Director of BOVAS Group, confirming her appointment as the institution’s Chancellor.
The presentation took place at Mrs. Samson’s office in Ibadan, where the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Odunayo Adebooye, delivered the letter on behalf of the Osun State Government and the university’s Governing Council.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Adebooye stated that Mrs. Samson’s appointment was a deliberate recognition of her distinguished record in business leadership, philanthropy, and contributions to national development.
“The appointment has continued to attract widespread commendation both within Nigeria and abroad. It represents a significant milestone for Osun State University as we deepen our commitment to excellence and global relevance,” the Vice-Chancellor said.
He expressed confidence that Mrs. Samson’s wealth of experience and leadership acumen would provide strategic guidance and moral authority to advance the university’s academic mission, research output, and international visibility.
Prof. Adebooye also commended Governor Ademola Adeleke for ensuring that merit and competence remain the guiding principles in appointments across the state and its institutions. He noted that the governor had consistently encouraged the university to engage individuals capable of adding tangible value to its growth, free from political interference.
Reading from the appointment letter signed by Governor Adeleke, Prof. Adebooye announced that Mrs. Samson’s tenure as Chancellor would commence on May 10, 2026, for an initial term of five years.
The letter stated that the appointment was made in recognition of her accomplishments in corporate leadership, service to humanity, and her sustained contributions to national development.
As Chancellor, Mrs. Samson will serve as the ceremonial head of the university. Her role will include providing moral, strategic, and inspirational support to the management, staff, and students, as well as serving as an ambassador for the institution at national and international levels.
Prof. Adebooye further disclosed that the university would announce the date for her formal investiture in due course.
In her response, Mrs. Victoria Samson expressed appreciation to the Osun State Government, the Governing Council, and the university management for the confidence reposed in her.
“I consider this appointment a great honour and a call to service. I thank His Excellency, Governor Ademola Adeleke, the Governing Council, and the management of Osun State University for this trust. I pledge to support the continued growth, academic excellence, and global standing of this institution,” she said.
Mrs. Samson received the university delegation alongside Mr. Temitope Samson, Engineer and Deputy Group Managing Director of BOVAS Group, and other senior officers of the company.
The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied by a high-powered delegation from UNIOSUN, including:

– Prof. Moruf Olayiwola, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration

The appointment is expected to strengthen Osun State University’s linkages with the private sector and enhance its capacity to attract investment, mentorship, and opportunities for students and faculty.
