As the world marks International Workers’ Day 2026 and welcomes the new month of May, Otunba Oluseye Oladosu Opatoki, People’s Democratic Party, PDP, governorship hopeful for the 2027 Oyo State election, has extended heartfelt solidarity to all workers across the state, describing them as “the pride of Oyo State and the foundation of the prosperity we enjoy today.”

In a May Day goodwill message released in Ibadan, Otunba Oluseye Opatoki joined millions of Nigerians to celebrate the resilience, dedication, and sacrifice of the working class while commending the labour-friendly policies of the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde’s PDP-led administration in Oyo State.

The PDP aspirant paid glowing tribute to civil servants, teachers, health workers, security personnel, artisans, farmers, traders, and private sector employees who, according to him, “have kept Oyo State moving forward through hard work and patriotism.”
“On this special day, I celebrate every worker in Oyo State. From the classrooms to the hospitals, from the farms to the markets, you are the true heroes of our democracy,” Otunba Opatoki said.

He specially lauded the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde FNSE for his commitment to workers’ welfare, citing the prompt payment of salaries and pensions, recruitment of teachers and health workers, and infrastructural renewal that has created jobs across the state.

“Under the leadership of our Governor, His Excellency Engr. Seyi Makinde, the PDP government in Oyo State has shown that workers’ welfare is non-negotiable. That is the legacy we must protect and build upon,” he stated.
Otunba Opatoki noted that the PDP remains a party of the people, with a strong history of supporting the working class. He said the achievements recorded under Governor Makinde have reaffirmed the party’s commitment to labour and human capital development.
“May Day reminds us that the dignity of labour is central to the PDP’s philosophy. In Oyo State, we have seen what is possible when government and workers partner in trust. Salaries are paid as and when due, promotions are regular, and workers are respected. This is the PDP way,” he said.
Looking ahead to 2027, Otunba Oluseye Opatoki pledged to consolidate and expand the pro-labour policies of the current administration if given the mandate to fly the PDP flag and serve as governor.
“My vision is simple: continuity, consolidation, and expansion of all the good works our leader, Governor Seyi Makinde, has started. We will deepen job creation, strengthen vocational training, support small businesses, and ensure that Oyo workers remain the best treated in Nigeria,” he assured.
He added that his “comradeship agenda” will focus on partnership with the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Trade Union Congress, TUC, and other labour unions to guarantee industrial harmony and inclusive growth.
As the new month begins, Otunba Opatoki urged workers to remain united, peaceful, and dedicated to duty, stressing that the progress of Oyo State depends on collective effort.
“Let us use this May Day to renew our loyalty to the state and to our party, the PDP. Let us continue to support His Excellency Governor Seyi Makinde as he leads us to greater heights. Together, we will keep Oyo State as the pacesetter,” he said.
The PDP aspirant also appreciated labour leaders in the state for their maturity, dialogue, and cooperation with the government, noting that industrial peace has been key to Oyo’s stability and development under the PDP.
“To our labour leaders, I say thank you. Your wisdom and partnership with government have kept Oyo State peaceful and progressive. This is the spirit of comradeship we must sustain,” Otunba Opatoki stated.
Otunba Oluseye Oladosu Opatoki wished all workers a peaceful May Day celebration and a productive new month, praying for God’s protection, good health, and prosperity for every family in Oyo State.
“Happy Workers’ Day to the great workers of Oyo State. Happy New Month to all. May the labour of our hands continue to prosper, and may Oyo State continue to rise under the PDP,” he concluded.
