Ibadan, Oyo State – In a bold declaration, Otunba Oluseye Oladosu Opatoki, a prominent governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has asserted that his ambition to succeed Governor Seyi Makinde in 2027 is the culmination of a long-term vision, rather than a sudden or opportunistic move. Appearing on a political talk show on Fresh FM Ibadan, anchored by the ace broadcaster, Mayor Isaac Brown, Otunba Oluseye Opatoki expressed his readiness to carry on the “GSM” legacy, as the party approaches crucial consensus meetings scheduled for April 8 and April 15.

Reflecting on his political trajectory, Otunba Oluseye Opatoki noted that he has been a consistent contender in Oyo State’s political landscape, having previously vied for the office in 2015 and 2018. He emphasized that his decision to join the PDP prior to the 2019 elections was a deliberate choice, and that he has since remained a steadfast and effective member of the ruling party.

“I am not an accidental aspirant,” Otunba Opatoki declared, characterizing his current quest as the culmination of a long-time vision that saw him transition through the UPN and ADC before eventually merging with the incumbent administration.
As an experienced executive who has served as Managing Director for four companies, Otunba Oluseye Opatoki argued that his professional background in the multinational oil and gas sector has equipped him with the requisite skills to navigate the complexities of state leadership. He described himself as an “addicted follower” of the executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde FNSE, noting that he has spent years observing the specific steps and methods taken by the current administration to achieve results. “I am confident that I will perform excellently if given the opportunity,” he said, likening his preparation to a cow resembling a cow or a dog resembling a dog.

Otunba Oluseye Opatoki also highlighted his commitment to Oyo State, citing his various philanthropic efforts, including providing millions in palliatives to citizens during the COVID-19 pandemic and sponsoring school fees for children across the state. He also mentioned organizing digital skill acquisition programs to empower Oyo youth for the global market and finalizing plans to distribute uniforms to ten schools across the state.

Furthermore, Otunba Oluseye Opatoki emphasized his role in fostering party unity, specifically citing his success in resolving a long-standing leadership split in Ibadan North East. As the PDP prepares to finalize its list of candidates for 51 elective posts, Otunba Oluseye Oladosu Opatoki expressed confidence that his blend of corporate competency and grassroots loyalty makes him the ideal choice to sustain the state’s current development trajectory.
