Hon. Engr. (Dr.) Aderemi Abass Oseni, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ido/Ibarapa East Federal Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), has taken a significant step towards addressing food insecurity and poverty in Oyo State. The lawmaker recently inaugurated a food bank initiative and the Remi Oseni Foundation to support vulnerable individuals, including the elderly, widows, and orphans.
This noble initiative, unveiled at his foundation office in Ologuneru, Ibadan, aims to provide staple food items such as rice, beans, and garri to those in need, while promoting President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. Speaking at the event, Hon. Aderemi Abas Oseni emphasized the need for collective action to tackle the country’s challenges, particularly in the area of food security.
According to him, the foundation will expand its reach to other parts of the constituency, focusing on rural communities where poverty and hunger are most prevalent. “We are here to extend our gratitude to the people in our communities,” he said. “Not everybody will have access to money, but everybody needs food. I believe that once hunger is out of our challenge, every other thing is simple”.
The coordinator of the Remi Oseni Foundation, Mrs. Tolulope Ojelabi, explained that beneficiaries were selected after thorough verification to ensure the items reach those in genuine need. She noted that the project is non-partisan and focused on meeting the needs of the less privileged at the grassroots.
The event was attended by prominent dignitaries, including APC members, community leaders, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders. One of the beneficiaries, Rasidat Ibiwumi, expressed her gratitude, saying the initiative would significantly help in addressing poverty and hunger among vulnerable groups at the grassroots.
Hon. Remi Oseni’s commitment to community development is evident in his various initiatives, including the distribution of over 5,000 bags of fertilizers to rural farmers and the launch of a 5 billion naira endowment fund to support community projects.
As a champion of community welfare and progress, Hon. Aderemi Abas Oseni has consistently demonstrated his dedication to uplifting the lives of his constituents. His leadership has led to increased funding for road repairs, directly benefiting countless residents who depend on these routes for their daily activities and livelihoods.
