The All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate for Oyo South Senatorial District, Hon. Engr. Dr. Aderemi Abas Oseni, on Saturday stormed Bashorun Ogunmola in Ibadan South-West Local Government Area for a G-5 Town Hall Meeting with community leaders, party faithful, youths, women and other critical stakeholders.

The well-attended town hall meeting, which drew representatives from various communities within the local government, provided a strategic platform for direct interaction between the senatorial hopeful and the grassroots, as he presented his vision for a better, more prosperous and more inclusive Oyo South.

The meeting had in attendance notable political figures and community stakeholders, including Barrister Lowo Obisesan, Hon. Olanrewaju Jare Adepoju, Chief Imam Lawal, Alhaji Mutiu Adebayo, Comrade Ogundoyin Peter and representatives of several communities across Ibadan South-West.

In his welcome address, Hon. Adepoju, who set the tone for the engagement, warmly welcomed Hon. Remi Oseni and his entourage to Bashorun Ogunmola. He appreciated the participating communities and the organisers for their commitment to grassroots democracy. According to him, the town hall was deliberately designed to provide communities with an opportunity to meet Hon. Remi Oseni one-on-one, appreciate his past contributions and present their needs and requests for future interventions.

Adepoju also disclosed that the occasion was used to officially launch the G-5 women’s group, a grassroots mobilisation structure for women across the area. He offered prayers for the success of Hon. Remi Oseni and all APC candidates in the forthcoming general elections.

Addressing the gathering, Hon. Remi Oseni, who began his remarks with songs of thanksgiving and prayers, expressed profound appreciation to the communities, youths, Islamic clerics, women leaders and other stakeholders who turned out in large numbers to receive him.

The APC senatorial candidate spoke passionately about his deep-rooted connection to both Ido and Ibadan South-West Local Government Areas, describing the two council areas as places intrinsically connected to his roots, upbringing and political journey.

He said the town hall meeting was primarily about reconnecting with his people, listening attentively to their concerns, understanding their challenges and receiving their requests directly without any intermediary.

Hon. Remi Oseni also used the opportunity to recall his impressive performance in the 2023 general elections, noting that he won in all polling units within his federal constituency and recorded the same number of votes as the presidential and senatorial candidates in the area, a feat he described as a clear demonstration of the confidence reposed in him by the people.

He therefore appealed to his supporters and the entire people of Ibadan South-West to replicate what he described as the historic and overwhelming electoral support of 2023 in the 2027 elections.

The federal lawmaker urged the electorate to vote massively for all candidates of the All Progressives Congress across board in the elections scheduled for January 16, 2027, covering the presidential, senatorial and House of Representatives seats. He equally called for total support for Senator Sharafadeen Alli in the subsequent governorship election and for all APC House of Assembly candidates in the state.

Highlighting his track record of community development and empowerment, Hon. Remi Oseni gave a detailed account of several projects and interventions he facilitated before and after the 2023 elections, which he said were driven by his passion for grassroots development.

According to him, before the 2023 election, he donated 10 transformers to various communities, graded 11 rural roads to ease movement of people and farm produce, constructed three bridges, built two blocks of classrooms and four healthcare centres, and provided more than 30 motorised boreholes to address water challenges in underserved communities.

He further disclosed that after the 2023 election, he sustained his empowerment drive by empowering 82 youths with ₦1 million each to start or expand their businesses, distributed 7,000 bags of fertiliser to farmers to boost food production and distributed 32 transformers, including three transformers specifically allocated to communities in Ibadan South-West.

The APC senatorial candidate also listed nine roads already constructed in Ido Local Government Area, with plans concluded to flag off another 11 roads, alongside two additional health centres, two specialist hospitals, a modern cold room facility for meat sellers in Eruwa, three new schools and various targeted interventions for artisans.

Hon. Remi Oseni said he had invested more than ₦100 million in artisans across different trades and provided a ₦50 million grant to an association of tailors as part of his economic empowerment programme aimed at strengthening small and medium-scale enterprises.

He promised that the town hall meeting model would not end with the campaign season, assuring that if elected as Senator for Oyo South in 2027, he would institutionalise periodic town hall meetings and embark on visits to each of the communities represented at the meeting to listen to their needs and explore practical and sustainable ways of addressing them.

The lawmaker reiterated his appeal for total support for APC candidates in the 2027 general elections and particularly charged young people to shun vote-selling and other forms of electoral malpractice. He stressed the need for youths to make informed choices based on issues, competence, track record and the future development of the country, rather than immediate financial inducement.

The town hall meeting ended on a high note with interactions, presentation of community requests and solidarity chants from supporters who pledged to mobilise massively for the APC in the forthcoming elections.
