The 2026 edition of AGBEBI DAY, the annual flagship programme of the Association of Community Birth Attendants and Voluntary Health Workers, was held on Tuesday at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.

The event, which drew health workers, traditional rulers, women leaders and political stakeholders from across Oyo State, took a new dimension with the presence of the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate for Oyo South Senatorial District, Hon. Engr. Dr. Aderemi Abass Oseni.

The cerebral lawmaker representing Ido/Ibarapa East Federal Constituency and Chairman, House Committee on Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, FERMA, opened his address with prayers for the safety, dignity and professional growth of community health workers. He described them as “the first responders and silent pillars of our healthcare system.”

He said the President’s reforms in health, infrastructure and economic management were already producing tangible results across the country.

“President Tinubu understands that a healthy and connected nation is a productive nation. The removal of fuel subsidy has blocked leakages and corruption in the oil sector. Today, governors are more consistent with salary payments, and we are seeing massive investment in road infrastructure and primary healthcare,” Oseni stated.

“We must all key into this Renewed Hope vision. As we support our President, we must also support ourselves at the grassroots. That is why I am here today to identify with our health workers,” he added.

Hon. Remi Oseni also used the platform to reel out his achievements as a federal lawmaker, with emphasis on health, infrastructure and human capital development in Ido and Ibarapa East federal constituency.

He disclosed that through legislative advocacy and collaboration with federal agencies, he facilitated the construction and equipping of a new Primary Healthcare Centre in Ido and Ibarapa East to improve access to maternal and child healthcare services for rural dwellers.

“As Chairman of the House Committee on FERMA, I have prioritized the rehabilitation and maintenance of federal roads. Good roads connect farmers to markets, patients to hospitals, and children to schools. That is the standard of governance President Tinubu is promoting nationally, and that is what we are replicating in Ido/Ibarapa East,” he said.

The lawmaker further listed his interventions to include:

  1. Education support: Payment of free JAMB and WAEC fees for indigent students, and construction/renovation of schools.
  2. Youth empowerment: Recent empowerment of 80 youths with ₦1 million each for capacity-building and business start-ups.
  3. Rural development: Donation of transformers to communities to improve electricity supply, provision of solar-powered boreholes, and support for women and vulnerable groups.

He noted that his philanthropic efforts have extended beyond Ido/Ibarapa East to cover Ibadan and other parts of Oyo State.

In a major highlight, Hon. Remi Oseni donated ₦20,000,000 at the event towards the construction of the Association’s secretariat project.

The announcement drew thunderous applause, solidarity, songs, and chants of support from members who pledged to mobilize massively for him and the APC in the 2027 elections.

“Your work saves lives in our communities. Government must support you, and leaders must honor you. This ₦20 million is my commitment to ensuring you have a befitting secretariat to coordinate your operations and training,” Hon. Remi Oseni declared.

The donation stood in sharp contrast to the earlier ₦1 million announcement made by proxy for the APM candidate, a development that dominated discussions among attendees long after the event.

Hon. Engr. Dr. Aderemi Abass Oseni urged members of the association to uphold professionalism and align with federal health policies aimed at reducing maternal and infant mortality.

He charged them and the general public to come out en masse and vote for the APC in 2027, assuring them of more inclusive governance and grassroots-oriented projects under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The 2026 AGBEBI DAY ended as both a professional gathering and a political rallying point, underscoring growing grassroots support for the APC and President Tinubu’s administration in Oyo State.
