The Media Team of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Governorship Candidate in Oyo State, Olooye Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke, FCA, has described claims by Chief Gbemileke Alagbe, popularly known as Eleniyan, to be the party’s gubernatorial candidate as baseless, contradictory, and misleading.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Media Team said Alagbe’s declaration was “wishful thinking, a mirage, delusion, fantasy, and an absolute balderdash” that should be disregarded by the media, party members, and the general public.
The Team raised questions over the legality of Alagbe’s claim, noting that he had instituted Suit No. FHC/IB/CS/67/2026 at the Federal High Court, Ibadan, on June 28, 2026, against the ADC, its National Working Committee, and others. The matter, it said, has been adjourned to September 15, 2026.
“How can someone that has taken the ADC and its NWC to court now turn around to claim he is the governorship candidate submitted by the same party to INEC? That is a clear contradiction,” the statement queried.
The Media Team further stated that it was informed that at the same press conference where the claim was made, Alagbe also unveiled Barrister Niyi Aborisade as his purported running mate and Deputy Governorship Candidate of the ADC in Oyo State.
To set the record straight, the Team said Olooye Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke emerged as the ADC governorship candidate following the party’s primary election, where he polled 16,051 votes. According to the Team, the results were widely reported by the media, with Bisi Ilaka recording 11,415 votes, Gbemileke Alagbe 241 votes, Azeez Adeduntan 155 votes, and Niyi Aborisade 67 votes.
The Media Team maintained that Olooye Adegoke remains the governorship candidate duly recognized by the ADC and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Oyo State.
It called on party members and the people of Oyo State to remain calm and discerning, and to ignore what it described as attempts to create confusion through unverified claims.
“The identity of a political party’s candidate is not determined by who makes the loudest declaration or who receives the most publicity. It is determined by the applicable electoral process, authentic records, and the law,” the Team stated.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Olooye Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke remains our recognized gubernatorial candidate, and we remain firmly committed to defending his mandate through every lawful and legitimate avenue available to us.
“We have no objection to any individual exercising his or her lawful rights, but we will strongly resist any attempt to substitute propaganda, wishful thinking, or unverifiable claims for established facts.”
