In a move widely described as a reflection of unity and strategic political alignment, Mr Adewale Owoade has emerged as the consensus candidate for the councillorship position in Ward 4, Afijio Local Government Area ahead of the 2026 Oyo State Local Government Elections.

The emergence followed extensive consultations, engagements, and the endorsement of key political leaders and stakeholders within Afijio LG, under the umbrella of the ruling party Allied People’s Movement APM in Oyo State.

In a statement released after the consensus was reached, Owoade described his emergence as “both a privilege and a call to greater service,” expressing deep appreciation to the political leadership of Afijio for the confidence reposed in him.

Owoade paid special tribute to Chief Sunday Ogunlade, the overall political leader in Afijio Local Government, whom he credited for providing exemplary leadership, guidance, and direction that ensured a rancour-free process.

“I am profoundly grateful to our leader, Chief Sunday Ogunlade, for his fatherly role, wisdom and commitment to unity in Afijio. His leadership has continued to keep the political family together and focused on development,” Owoade stated.

He also extended appreciation to Chief Babatunde Tijani, popularly known as Double T, for his fatherly guidance, encouragement, and unwavering support throughout the consultation process.

Other leaders acknowledged by the consensus candidate include Prof. Dahud Sangodoyin, Honourable Commissioner for Energy, whose support and leadership he described as “invaluable to the success of this process”; Hon. Busari Olayemi, Director-General Oyo State Liaison Office Lagos/Abuja; for his encouragement and belief in his capacity; Hon. Adeolu Adeleke, former Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, for his wealth of experience and political wisdom; and Hon. Dokun Adeyemo, SSA to the Governor on Industry and Cooperative, for his commitment to strengthening the party at the grassroots.

At the ward level, Owoade specifically recognized Okanlawon Femi, Ward 4 Chairman, for his cooperation, leadership, and grassroots mobilization that made the consensus possible.

Speaking on the significance of the consensus, Owoade said the development was not about personal ambition but about collective responsibility to deliver dividends of democracy to the people of Ward 4.

“My emergence is not a personal victory. It is a mandate from our leaders and the good people of Ward 4 to serve with humility, integrity, accountability, and dedication,” he said.

He pledged to prioritize grassroots development, youth empowerment, security, and the consolidation of Governor Seyi Makinde’s people-oriented policies at the ward level.

“I assure the good people of Ward 4 that I will justify this confidence through purposeful representation and accessible leadership. I will run an all-inclusive administration that carries every segment along – youths, women, elders, and party faithful,” Owoade assured.

He further called on all stakeholders to set aside individual interests and work together for the progress of Ward 4 and Afijio Local Government in general.

Political leaders in Afijio noted that the consensus arrangement is in line with the party’s strategy to present credible, tested, and grassroots-oriented candidates ahead of the polls.

The process, they said, underscores the commitment of Afijio leaders to internal democracy, conflict prevention, and victory at the polls.

Owoade also expressed gratitude to party executives, ward leaders, youth and women groups, supporters, friends, and well-wishers who played various roles to ensure the success of the process.

“To every leader, stakeholder, and member of our great party who stood by me, I say thank you. Your support will not be taken for granted. Together, we will build a Ward 4 that works for all,” he concluded.

With the consensus now sealed, attention in Ward 4 has shifted to mobilization and voter education as the party prepares for the main election. Party leaders expressed optimism that the unity displayed would translate to victory for the party across Afijio Local Government.
