Says Party’s Strength Lies In Dialogue, Respect For Leaders And Collective Interest Above Personal Ambition
The Executive Chairman of Egbeda Local Government Area, Hon. Sanda Sikiru Lajue, has called on members of the Allied People’s Movement, APM, in the council to prioritize unity, mutual respect, and internal cohesion ahead of the forthcoming local government elections, warning that divisive statements only weaken the party’s structure.
In an official statement released by his office on Monday, Hon. Lajue responded to a press statement currently circulating on social media which, according to him, “unnecessarily drags the names of respected political leaders into issues capable of creating division” within the APM in Egbeda LG.
The Chairman expressed concern that political participation and democratic engagement should not be reduced to personal attacks, disrespect, or attempts to tarnish the reputation of leaders who have contributed immensely to the growth and stability of the party in Oyo State.
“We wish to state clearly that healthy democratic engagement must be anchored on facts, decorum, and respect for constituted authority,” the statement read.
“In particular, we urge the writer(s) of the said statement to refrain from involving Otunba Seye Famojuro and other respected leaders in any form of political bitterness or inflammatory rhetoric.”
Hon. Lajue noted that leaders of Otunba Famojuro’s calibre deserve commendation, not confrontation, for their years of service, commitment, and sacrifices toward the development of APM and Oyo State at large.
The Council Chairman stressed that leadership within the party must be built on dialogue, consultation, mutual respect, and strict adherence to the constitution of the party.
He reaffirmed that every aspirant has a constitutional right to pursue political ambition, while party leaders equally have the responsibility to ensure fairness, peace, and unity throughout the selection and electioneering process.
“Politics is not a battlefield of insults. It is a platform for service, development, and progress. The moment we allow personal ambition to override collective interest, we jeopardize the very foundation upon which our party stands,” Hon. Lajue stated.
As preparations intensify for the 2026 local government elections, Hon. Lajue appealed to all supporters, youth groups, and political stakeholders in Egbeda to conduct themselves with maturity and avoid statements or actions capable of creating unnecessary tension or disunity among party faithful.
“The strength of APM lies in its unity, discipline, and respect for leadership,” he emphasized. “We cannot afford to dissipate our energy on internal crisis when the task before us is to deliver the dividends of democracy to our people and ensure victory for the party at the polls.”
The Chairman reiterated his administration’s commitment to promoting peace, inclusiveness, and harmony among all members and leaders of the party across the 11 wards of Egbeda Local Government.
Hon. Sanda Sikiru Lajue concluded by urging all party members to place the collective interest of Egbeda above personal ambitions and to work together to build a stronger, more united local government.
“Together, we can build a stronger, more united Egbeda Local Government that benefits all residents, irrespective of political affiliation or aspiration,” he said.
Political observers in the council described the Chairman’s intervention as timely, noting that it would help douse tension and refocus party members on grassroots mobilization and voter engagement ahead of the polls.
