Oyo State Governor ‘Seyi Makinde has effected a minor cabinet reshuffle, redeploying Alhaja Faosat Joke Sanni to head the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, while relieving Honourable Toyin Balogun of her appointment as Commissioner.
The development was contained in a press statement issued on Tuesday, July 1, 2026, by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, who confirmed that the redeployment takes immediate effect.
According to the statement, Alhaja Sanni returns to a familiar terrain, having previously served as Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion between 2019 and 2023. She was moved to the Ministry of Special Duties in 2023 and was recently redeployed to the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Investment and Cooperative before Tuesday’s directive.
The governor, while announcing the changes, expressed appreciation to the outgoing Commissioner, Mrs Toyin Balogun, for her contributions to the development of Oyo State. “Governor Makinde thanks Mrs Balogun for her service to the state and wishes her success in her future endeavour,” the statement read.
The reshuffle marks the second time Alhaja Sanni will oversee the Women Affairs portfolio under the Makinde administration, a move political observers say signals the governor’s intent to leverage institutional memory and proven experience in driving his social inclusion agenda.
Alhaja Sanni’s return to the ministry comes at a time the state government is intensifying interventions for vulnerable groups, women empowerment programmes, and child welfare initiatives across the 33 local government areas. Her prior tenure was noted for expanded collaboration with development partners and grassroots women cooperatives.
The governor did not give reasons for the exit of Mrs Balogun, describing the exercise as a “minor cabinet reshuffle” aimed at strengthening service delivery.
The directive takes immediate effect, with Alhaja Sanni expected to resume at the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion without delay.
