IBADAN, Oyo State — June 12, 2026 – As Nigeria marks another Democracy Day, Kolawole Sheu Adedeji, popularly known as KSA, the Allied People’s Movement (APM) candidate for Ido/Ibarapa East Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has called for a renewed national commitment to the core ideals of democracy. He emphasized that democratic governance must consistently deliver hope, sustainable development, and economic opportunities to every Nigerian.

In a statement issued by the KSA Media Group on Friday to commemorate the June 12, 2026 Democracy Day celebration, the frontline lawmaker-in-waiting described the date as a defining milestone in Nigeria’s democratic evolution and a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by patriots who fought for the enthronement and consolidation of civil rule.

According to KSA, June 12 represents more than a public holiday. It is a historical reference point that challenges the present generation of leaders and citizens to protect democratic gains and deepen the culture of accountability.

“Democracy Day is a significant milestone in Nigeria’s journey as a nation. It reminds us of the courage and sacrifice of heroes who stood firm for the enthronement of democratic governance in our country. It is also a call to duty for those of us in leadership and those aspiring to serve,” KSA stated.

He noted that while Nigeria has sustained uninterrupted democratic rule for over two decades, the true measure of democracy lies in its ability to improve the quality of life of the average citizen, particularly at the grassroots.

KSA stressed that Democracy Day should serve a dual purpose; celebrating national achievements while compelling leaders at all levels to recommit to good governance, transparency, and the welfare of the people.

“Democracy is not an end in itself. It is a means to an end. The end is a better life for the people. If democracy does not translate into improved living standards, access to quality healthcare, functional education, jobs for our youths, and security for our farmers, then we have missed the point,” he said.

The APM candidate urged elected and appointed officials across the federation to prioritize policies and programmes that address the real needs of communities. He argued that legislative representation must go beyond rhetoric to actual service delivery, especially in constituencies like Ido/Ibarapa East that are largely agrarian and youth-driven.

KSA also charged Nigerians to remain active stakeholders in the democratic process. He emphasized that sustainable development cannot be achieved by government alone, but through constructive engagement between leaders and the governed.

“I urge our people to continue supporting democratic institutions and to participate actively in governance. Attend town hall meetings, engage your representatives, demand accountability, and vote responsibly. Democracy thrives where citizens are vigilant and responsible,” he added.

He maintained that collective responsibility between leaders and citizens is the foundation upon which prosperous societies are built.

Reaffirming his personal commitment, KSA pledged to promote people-oriented initiatives that will directly impact lives in Ido/Ibarapa East Federal Constituency and contribute meaningfully to national development if elected.

“My mandate, when given by the people of Ido/Ibarapa East, will be people-first. We will work to attract development projects, empower our youths and women, support our farmers, and ensure that democracy at the constituency level is visible, practical, and impactful,” KSA affirmed.

He concluded by congratulating Nigerians on the 2026 Democracy Day celebration and called on all citizens to use the occasion to reflect on the nation’s democratic journey and renew their faith in the Nigerian project.
