The leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Olorunsogo Local Government Area has dismissed reports of a purported House of Representatives primary election in the council, describing the claim as false, misleading, and an attempt to mislead party members and the public.

In a communiqué issued after an emergency stakeholders’ meeting held at the residence of APC leader Alhaji Rasaq Raji, party elders and leaders unanimously condemned the allegation, stating that no primary election was conducted, no aspirant was confirmed, and no directive was issued by the party to that effect.

The development comes amid growing political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections, as aspirants across Oyo State intensify consultations for various elective positions. The APC leadership in Olorunsogo said it was compelled to intervene to prevent confusion and protect the integrity of the party’s internal processes.

Alhaji Rasaq Raji, who presided over the meeting, said the claim by one of the aspirants that a primary had taken place was baseless and did not follow any of the party’s established procedures.

“For the avoidance of doubt, let it be known to the general public and all APC members in Olorunsogo that no primary election was held. No aspirant has been confirmed or affirmed. No directives were issued by the party,” the communiqué stated.

He stressed that the party operates on clear rules and that any legitimate primary must be conducted strictly in accordance with the APC constitution and under the supervision of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

“Any exercise conducted outside these laid-down procedures carries no legal or political validity whatsoever. What is being circulated is nothing more than sponsored misinformation,” he added.

The stakeholders used the meeting to appeal to members across Olorunsogo LGA to remain calm, law-abiding, and united, urging them to disregard any information designed to sow division within the party ranks.

Alhaji Raji warned that the circulation of false claims at this critical stage could undermine party cohesion and distract from the APC’s goal of securing victory in 2027.

“The All Progressives Congress remains one united, indivisible family in Olorunsogo. We will not allow individuals seeking political advantage to fracture our ranks with fabricated reports,” he said.

He reiterated that when the party is ready to conduct any primary, it will follow due process and communicate officially through recognized party structures.

Observers note that false claims of primaries have become a recurring tactic in Nigerian politics, often used to create a false sense of momentum or to pressure party leadership into premature endorsements. The APC leadership in Olorunsogo said it would not tolerate such actions.

The leaders affirmed their commitment to the ideals of the APC and to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, stating that internal discipline and adherence to due process were essential to maintaining the party’s credibility at the grassroots.

The communiqué concluded with a call on all members to remain focused on party-building activities and to await official communication from the state and national leadership of the APC regarding the timetable and guidelines for the 2027 primaries.
