According to a report by this newspaper, tragedy struck in Ibadan as a local journalist, Ojo Peter, was shot dead by suspected armed robbers in broad daylight along the Molete–Oke Ado axis of the city.

The incident happened on August 18, 2025, but it was initially mistaken for a health-related emergency until Ojo’s younger brother, Enahoro Peter, clarified that he was attacked over the cross bag he carried.

Eyewitnesses said the journalist repeatedly told the assailants the bag contained no cash, yet they shot him in the back before taking it away.

Ojo, who previously worked with Parrot Extra and later Daily Monitor, was mourned by colleagues after the Oyo State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) officially announced his death on September 7.

According to Enahoro, the police at Orita Challenge Division notified the family after finding his brother’s damaged phone at the scene. “He left home healthy, only to be killed while struggling to make ends meet,” he lamented.

The Oyo State Police Command confirmed that a suspect had been arrested while another died during a confrontation with operatives. Police spokesperson CSP Adewale Osifeso said the suspects, linked to multiple robbery cases, were intercepted on a motorcycle around Imolefalafia.
