Oyo State House of Assembly, led by Rt. Hon Adebo Edward Ogundoyin, has taken bold steps to tackle critical issues affecting the state. In a recent plenary session, the House made significant progress on pivotal bills and reports, including the third reading of the Oyo State Flood Management Agency Bill, 2024. This bill, forwarded by Governor Seyi Makinde, aims to establish a permanent agency to oversee and maintain a comprehensive flood management system across the state, building upon the existing efforts of the Ibadan Urban Flood Management Project (IUFMP).

The session also featured reports from various committees, including Transport, Public Accounts, and more. A key area of focus was the interim report on Transport, which highlighted concerns regarding state-owned agencies like Pacesetter Transport Services (PTS). The report revealed a lack of a legal framework guiding PTS operations, prompting the House to launch a comprehensive investigation.

The investigation aims to achieve three key objectives:

  • Auditing Staff and Operations: A thorough examination of PTS staff, operations, and finances to ensure transparency and efficiency.
  • State Government Subventions and Revenue Generation: An investigation into state government subventions and revenue generation to ensure accountability and optimal resource utilization.
  • Ensuring Best Practices: A commitment to ensuring PTS operates in the best interest of Oyo State citizens, prioritizing their needs and well-being.

As the Chairman of the Conference of Speakers Nigeria, Rt. Hon Adebo Ogundoyin has demonstrated exceptional leadership and a commitment to good governance. Under his guidance, the Oyo State House of Assembly continues to prioritize the welfare and development of the state and its citizens.

The establishment of the Oyo State Flood Management Agency is a proactive approach to safeguarding communities and infrastructure from the devastating effects of flooding. The agency will oversee the management of flood across Oyo State, unlike the IUFMP, which limits its activities and scope only to Ibadan.
