Tuesday, December 17, 2024, marked a significant milestone in the history of Ijeru Kingdom, Ogbomoso, as His Royal Majesty, Oba Sunday Oladapo Oyediran, the Lagbami Osekun III, Onpetu of Ijeru Kingdom, celebrated his 25th year on the throne. The occasion was commemorated with an empowerment programme, food bank distribution, and community development initiatives, which took place at the iconic Onpetu Palace, Ijeru Oba, Ogbomoso.
His Royal Majesty, Oba Sunday Oladapo Oyediran, reflected on the medical outreach programme held between October 31st and November 3rd, 2024, declaring that the medical team did a wonderful job. He expressed his gratitude to the medical team for their tireless efforts, adding: “I’d like to extend my gratitude to our medical team for their dedication. Their selflessness is truly commendable.”
The monarch emphasized the importance of giving back to the community, as according to him, “leaders must prioritize the well-being of our people.”
He explained that the food bank initiative was born out of the realization that many families in the community struggle to access basic necessities, including food.
Oba Sunday Oladapo Oyediran also spoke about the significance of his 25th-anniversary celebration, saying: “This year’s anniversary is special, as it marks 25 years since I received the staff of office from the then-governor, Alhaji Lam Adesina.”
Oba Sunday Oladapo Oyediran also provided more insight into his vision for the community. He stated: “I believe that traditional institutions should prioritize the interest of the people they serve.” He also explained that the empowerment programme and food bank initiative were designed to support the less privileged and promote community development.
The monarch equally reflected on his 25-year reign, saying: “I’ve always thought about how to improve the lives of my people, particularly the less advantaged.” He expressed his commitment to continuing his community development initiatives, stating that he has been consistent with our programmes, and will continue to work to make a positive impact on the community.
Oba Sunday Oladapo Oyediran also acknowledged the support of his Christian brothers, who donated generously to the empowerment programme. He praised their kindness, saying: “Although they prefer to remain anonymous, their contributions will not go unnoticed.”
The monarch expressed his heartfelt gratitude to several individuals and groups.
He said: “I’d like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Governor Seyi Makinde for his unwavering support. Although he couldn’t attend in person, his presence was felt. I also appreciate the Deputy Governor, Barrister Bayi Lawal, for his role as the Second in Command and as one of our respected chiefs.”
He added:
“My thanks also go to Otunba Mayeloye of Ijeru, Aare Atayese, and our brothers and sisters from Ijeru in the diaspora. Your contributions to this anniversary celebration are invaluable.”
Oba Sunday Oladapo Oyediran also thanked Barrister Segun Adekunle, Hon. Oyedokun Oyeniyi Timothy, Chairman of Ogbomosho South, and the esteemed fathers in the Lord for their presence and prayers. “May God continue to bless and answer your prayers,” he added.
Finally, the monarch thanked his chiefs for their dedication and hard work since early that morning.
In a separate speech, Hon. Oyedokun Oyeniyi Timothy, Chairman of Ogbomosho South Local Government, commended Oba Sunday Oladapo Oyediran’s leadership and vision. He stated: “Our monarch’s commitment to community development is inspiring. His empowerment programs and food bank initiative are a testament to his dedication to the welfare of our people.” Hon. Oyedokun also acknowledged the importance of collaboration between traditional rulers and local government authorities.
“As traditional rulers and local government partners, we work together to ensure our people receive the dividends of democracy,” he said.
He also praised Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration, noting that one of its core values is supporting the youth, physically challenged individuals, and women. “We can’t do less because when the head is doing the same thing, those following have to do the same,” he emphasized.
