Ibadan Town which became formalized in the year 1829 with over four million inhabitants until now has a stint of new look as finally jinx on section 28 of the chieftaincy law in the state got broken.


On 11th February, 1983 the first Olubadan, Oloye Asanke was crowned during the Late Bola Ige


The coronation of 11 high chiefs including the former state governor, Oba Rasheed Ladoja and 10 others; the event which held at the ancient Mapo Hall on Friday 7th July,2023 gathered plenty traditional rulers including the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Rasheed Akanbi political stalwarts, past and serving lawmakers, Dotun Sanusi and business moguls among others.
Earlier, the state government has approved six chiefs from the Balogun line including His royal majesty,Oba Owolabi Olakulehin( Balogun of Ibadan), Oba Tajudeen Ajibola(Otun Balogun), Oba Lateef Adebimpe(Osi Balogun), Oba Kola Adegbola(Ashipa Balogun), Oba Dada Isioye(Ekerin Balogun), Oba Abiodun Azeez) and five (5) others from the Olubadan Line including the former governor of Oyo State and Otun Olubadan, Oba Rasheed Ladoja, Oba Eddy Oyewole(Osi Olubadan), Oba Hamidu Ajibade(Ekerin Olubadan) and Oba Adebayo Akande.
In his welcome address, Olubadan of Ibadan, His royal majesty, Moshood Olalekan Balogun whi was represented by former Chief of staff in the state, Tajudeen Aremu stressed that the two-phase coronation is a sort of history reconstruction and never an attempt to witch-hunt the chieftaincy matter of Ibadan land.

” This day wouldn’t have come to be without the gracious approval given to my request for the elevation of the members of my council to beaded crown waering Oba as Royal majesties by the people’s governor,Seyi Makinde”
“This particular occasion is not for a long speech where onr can go on educating the public on the imperatives of what we are here today but suffice to say and happily too that there’s a consensus on the need for some of our Baales in Ibadanland to wear crowns and addressed as obas.”
” why are we here? We are here to reconstruct history because what we are doing today, as historical as it could not be to be novel, but the history has to be reconstructed to make it enduring and sustainable “, Olubadan said.
While presenting the staff of office,the Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde said his administration would welcome integration of the beaded kings as internal cabinet while coronation will be made official by the Olubadan and the new kings must pay due homage.
Makinde noted that the step taken will fade-out crisis related to crowning while court will consider petition where the need arises to settle controversies and complaints
” We believe today majority have had their way while the minority will only have their say”
“We stress here that only the Olubadan has the power to crown while the court is permitted to receive any petitions in case of arising”, Makinde stressed.
Meanwhile, of the 11 beaded crowns, former governor of oyo state, Rasheed Ladoja was absent.
