The Former Speaker of Oyo House of Assembly and Lawmaker representing Atiba State Constituency at the 9th Assembly, Rt. Hon. Asimiyu Alarape has said that there was no need to make comparism between him and the current speaker, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, adding that ‘ two people can never be the same’.
Alarape in an exclusive interview with the crew of naijatodaynews.com in his office, Ibadan disclosed that there was no need to make comparism between him and the current speaker because they are two different people who can never be the same.
In his explanation, Alarape expatiated that he and Ogundoyin are two different people with heterogeneous educational background, source, ages, experience, professions and other demographic status, adding that, arriving at a conclusion on difference between him(Alarape) and the current speaker of Oyo House of Assembly (Ogundoyin) could not be easily attained for some reasons.
He said that there was no doubt that he had previously acted as the speaker of the State House of Assembly and he was able to do his best likewise Ogundoyin is doing wonderfully well as the current occupier of the exalted position.
He stressed that the duo are on the same page to ensure that the motions, bills and laws that would move the pacesetter state forward are their priorities irrespective of political platforms.
He added that without mincing words, for the past one and half years that the current 9th Assembly’s members had assumed offices and inaugurated, they have enhanced the passage of bills, making of laws, resolutions, oversight functions and others which are geared towards the progress of the state.
On areas of disparity, he said that such could not be ruled out in any setting but conflict resolution, conflict management skills and other mechanisms are being employed to get things done among the distinguished colleagues.
The current minority leader of the house said that many would have tagged them as rubber lawmakers because of no disagreement among one another, stressing that there are ways, methods and strict procedures to get things done without rancour.
He said that the 9th Assembly is populated by PDP lawmakers and it would be always easy to overwhelme the minority when it comes to notable issues but that does not mean that the voice of the minority ones should not be heard.
In another vein, Alarape enjoined the current administration led by Governor Seyi Makinde to give everybody regardless of political platforms the same treatment and also ensure fairness, justice and equity to all and sundry.
He charged Makinde to work on developmental programmes, policies, infrastructures and others that would be instrumental to the progress and all round developments of the state.
On APC crises, Alarape said,” crisis is universal in all political parties”, saying all mechanism and modalities are in top gear to get things resolved soonest.
