Political Awareness Group(PAG), Oyo State Chapter has enjoined Engr Seyi Makinde to observe and adhere strictly to diversities in culture and religions that make the corporate existence of Nigeria.
This was contained in a letter with the title ‘ RE: GOVERNING COUNCIL MEMBERSHIP AND BOARD CHAIRMEN OF TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS’ written by Hon. Abbas Ademola Busari, State Secretary, PAG and directed to Engr Seyi Makide on 9th June, 2020.
According to the letter,”Nigeria is blessed with rich diversities in culture and religions. It was the diversity that makes choice of federalism fascinating. The federal Constitution took cognisance of these diversities in addressing human rights and resources in general matters of our wealth and appointment allocations”
The pivot upon which any genuine Federalism gravitates are Justice and Equity to all diverse constituents that make up* the federation in terms of resources distribution and allocation of opportunities”.
“Despite a populace of homogeneous language, Oyo state still has people of diverse Religions, chiefly along the persuasions of Islaam and Christianity. We believe this reality must always be carefully considered and balanced in allocation of resources and opportunities”.
“Recall that oyo state presently has 14 Commissioners out of which 4 are Muslims . Attention was called to it shortly before Ramadan but we are till date awaiting the response of this present Government under your leadership”.
“We actually never lost hope on the requested redress on this glaringly lopsided appointment of Commissioners, knowing well the officialdom involved in Government activities”.
“However the hope of redeeming this error was dashed with the recent appointment to Boards and Governing Councils”.
“We observed again, and painfully so:
“That the generality of Muslims in the state remainmarginalized”.
“That out of the six Chairmen of Governing Boards, only one is Muslim while others are Christians. This is about 1:5 ratio”.
” That out of 34 members, 15 appeared as Muslims which is 44.1%”.
“Bearing in mind that Oyo state is one of the Muslim majority states in Nigeria and there are abundant and qualified members of Muslim populace, even in the ruling (your) party as well as Muslims seasoned Technocrats”.
OUR PRAYERS:
“The Oyo state Government should immediately redress the evident lopsided appointments of Commissioners”.
“Oyo state government should immediately address the flagrant violation of Equity and Justice deserving of Muslims in the appointment into Governing Councils”.
“We wish this administration under your able leadership give Muslims cause to repose their confidence and trust in you for just and fair treatment as responsible citizens with established rights”. Busari concluded
