The National Legal Adviser, Social Democratic Party(SDP), Barrister Joseph Abu has vowed that the National Working Committee of the party would appeal against Kogi Governorship Election Petition Tribunal’s Judgment that validated the electoral victory of Governor Yah ya Bello in its sitting in Abuja recently.
Abu in a release personally signed and made available to newsmen vowed that the National Working Committee of SDP would take an advance legal step in appealing against the State’s Election Petition Tribunal that affirmed the victory of the current governor of the state.
In his words,”The attention of the National Working Committee of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has been drawn to the reaction of our Candidate, Barrister Natasha Akpoti, to the judgment of the Kogi State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja which dismissed the petition of Barrister Natasha Akpoti of the SDP against Governor Yahaya Bello arising from Petition No EPT/KG/GOV/07/2019 between Natasha Hadiza Akpoti and Another versus INEC and three Others”.
“As a party, we respect the judgement, but we are not satisfied with it and we shall appeal against it. As for the reaction of our candidate, Barr. Natasha Akpoti, after the judgement, the Party notes that she is a passionately patriotic citizen who is conscious of the essence of the judiciary, but the Party does not share in her personal position which is adjudged disrespectful to the judgement”.
“Finally, the Social Democratic Party, singly and collectively, will continue to accord the Nigerian judiciary with respect and appreciation while trusting that justice will flow from it always without fear or favour. We urge all our supporters across Kogi State and SDP members nationwide to remain calm and peaceful while we await victory at the end”.
