Commercial Motorcyclists known as ‘Okada Riders’ in Oyo State have rejected the operation of Park Managers, alleging them of coercive and dictatorial styles of collecting government’s entitled dues.
The statement was in connection with protest displayed by Okada Riders in Oyo town and Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State on Friday, May 8th where the commercial motorcyclists in those cities rejected the operation of PMs over an allegation of employing coercive and tyrannical means to collect the government’s official dues.
In a viral vedio clip, Okada riders lamented that they were not pleased with operation of PMs whose styles and methods of collecting dues are coercion, dictatorship and tyranny among others.
They also alleged PMs of collecting astronomical amounts not in tandem with the statement and directives of Governor Seyi Makinde led administration, adding that the demand for such amounts at this material time that coronavirus pestilence has crippled business and general economy could not work out.
Commercial Motorcyclists alleged PMs of their wicked and callous displayed of anger against any okada man who fails to pay his due instantly, stressing that they are fond of beating and exchanging blows with them in order to collect the money forcefully.
They added that the PMs were fond of carrying axes, sophisticated guns, cutlasses and other dangerous weapons in a broad daylight to terrorise them against their wish.
Okada Riders said that PMs had been acting contrary and in aberration to terms of reference and conditions that necessitate their operations in the state.
In their admonition, they enjoined Oyo State’s Government to checkmate the park managers from charging exorbitant dues and oppressive means of compelling them to pay.
They added that Oyo State at large had for sometimes remained in unity, love, peace and tranquility, stressing that any attempt to reverse it to dark days of bloodshed and hooliganism should be vehemently opposed.
They appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde to take their condition into consideration through reduction of amounts to be paid into government’s purse daily.
Okada Riders said that they were just managing now because Covid-19 has destroyed business and economy in all ramifications.
