Oyo State is strengthening its international development partnerships to secure not only investment and funding opportunities but also technical expertise, knowledge transfer and strategic collaborations capable of accelerating the transformation of its Agribusiness sector.

The Executive Adviser to the Governor of Oyo State on Agribusiness and International Cooperation & Development and Director-General of the Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency (OYSADA), Dr. Adebowale “Debo” Akande, DBA, CMGR, FCMI, stated this during the visit of the Belgian Ambassador to Nigeria, H.E. Patrick Engelbert, to Ibadan.

Dr. Akande described the Ambassador’s visit as another important milestone in Oyo State’s growing engagement with Belgium, building on the relationship and discussions established during previous engagements.

The Belgian Ambassador was also a special participant at the Modern Poultry Disciplines Masterclass, where he joined the President of the Poultry Association of Nigeria, poultry industry stakeholders from Oyo State and industry leaders from Europe to discuss opportunities for strengthening the poultry value chain.

The engagement provided a platform for stakeholders to examine areas including technical capacity development, modern production practices, knowledge exchange, innovation and opportunities for stronger collaboration between local operators and international partners.

According to Dr. Akande, the significance of such engagements goes beyond ceremonial diplomacy, noting that Oyo State is deliberately positioning its international relationships as instruments for practical economic development.

He said the State’s strategy is to convert relationships with development institutions, governments, investors and technical partners into partnerships that can improve productivity, strengthen local capacity, create employment and expand opportunities for farmers and agribusiness operators.

Dr. Akande emphasised that Oyo State’s agribusiness transformation agenda requires sustained collaboration between government, the private sector, development partners, farmers, research institutions and international stakeholders.

He expressed appreciation to Ambassador Engelbert and the Belgian delegation for their continued interest in Oyo State, stressing that the State remains open to partnerships capable of delivering measurable value to its people and strengthening its position as a leading agribusiness destination.

He reaffirmed OYSADA’s commitment to facilitating strategic partnerships that connect Oyo’s agricultural potential with global expertise, technology, markets and investment.

“This is the value of sustained international cooperation — converting relationships into technical partnerships and practical opportunities that strengthen our economy,” Dr. Akande said.
