In a clear demonstration of accountability and people-centered governance, the Executive Chairman of Egbeda Local Government, Hon. Sanda Sikiru Oyedele, on Tuesday commissioned four motorized water borehole projects across four wards of the council area, fulfilling a major electioneering promise made to residents.
The commissioning ceremonies, held simultaneously across the benefiting communities, mark another milestone in the Sanda Sikiru-led administration’s drive to deliver tangible democratic dividends and improve the standard of living at the grassroots.
The newly commissioned water facilities are strategically located in:
- Ayede Area, Ward 2
- Ajia-Ajiwogbo Area, Ward 4
- Adekola/Iyana Agbala Area, Ward 10
- Egbeda Area, Ward 9
The projects are designed to provide sustainable access to clean and potable water for thousands of residents, addressing a long-standing challenge in communities where water scarcity had become a burden on households, businesses, and public health.
Speaking at the commissioning, Hon. Sanda Sikiru described the initiative as “a direct response to the yearnings of the people” and proof that his administration is guided by needs assessment and community engagement.

“Our promises to the people are not meant to remain on campaign platforms. We made commitments, and we are determined to keep them. These motorized boreholes are another demonstration of our resolve to provide people-oriented projects across Egbeda Local Government,” the council boss stated.
He emphasized that the water schemes were conceived not merely as infrastructural projects, but as practical interventions to improve public health, support household productivity, reduce water-borne diseases, and ease the daily struggle of residents, especially women and children, who bear the brunt of water scarcity.
Hon. Sanda Sikiru charged community leaders and residents in the four wards to take ownership of the facilities and ensure they are properly maintained and protected for long-term sustainability.
“Government can provide the infrastructure, but the people must protect it. These boreholes belong to you. Maintain them, guard them, and use them responsibly so that future generations can also benefit,” he admonished.
The Chairman further assured residents that his administration would continue to identify critical needs across all 12 wards of Egbeda and channel available resources toward projects that deliver meaningful, sustainable, and inclusive benefits.
Speaking at the event, the Director-General, Oyo State Lagos/Abuja Liaison Office, Hon. Busari Olayemi, commended the Egbeda LG administration for prioritizing water, which he described as critical to human survival and community development.
“Human survival is dependent on water. The commissioning of these boreholes has multi-faceted benefits. Ultimately, the development of projects such as boreholes are part of endeavors to build greater resilience at the grassroots level,” Hon. Olayemi said.
He noted that access to clean water reduces pressure on primary healthcare facilities, improves school attendance, and boosts small businesses, aligning perfectly with the developmental agenda of the Governor Seyi Makinde administration in Oyo State.
Residents and community leaders across the benefiting wards expressed deep appreciation to Hon. Sanda Sikiru for fulfilling his campaign promise. They described the projects as timely, impactful, and a true reflection of responsive leadership.
Community heads in Ayede, Ajia-Ajiwogbo, Adekola/Iyana Agbala, and Egbeda pledged to set up water management committees to oversee the facilities and prevent vandalism.
The event was attended by council officials, ward leaders, party faithful, youth groups, and women associations who thronged the commissioning sites in celebration.
The commissioning of the four motorized boreholes further underscores the administration’s commitment to good governance, grassroots development, accountability, and the delivery of democratic dividends to the people of Egbeda Local Government.
With this intervention, the Sanda Sikiru administration has again demonstrated that governance at the local level can be practical, visible, and impactful.
