The Director-General of the Oyo State Lagos/Abuja Liaison Office, Hon. Busari Olayemi, on Tuesday led the commissioning of four motorized water borehole projects in Egbeda Local Government, describing access to clean water as the foundation of healthy, productive and resilient communities.

Hon. Olayemi, who was specially invited to commission the projects, performed the ceremony alongside the Executive Chairman of Egbeda Local Government, Hon. Sanda Sikiru Oyedele, in a landmark event that fulfilled a major electioneering promise of the current administration.

The four projects commissioned are located at Ajia village in Olodan/Ajiwogbo, Ward 4; Ayede Area, Ward 2; Adekola/Iyana Agbala Area, Ward 10; and Ward 9, respectively. The facilities are expected to serve thousands of residents who have long grappled with water scarcity.

Delivering the keynote address at the commissioning, Hon. Busari Olayemi described the intervention as timely and strategic, noting that water remains central to human survival, public health and economic productivity.

“Human survival is dependent on water. Without water, there can be no life, no health, no agriculture, and no sustainable development. The commissioning of these boreholes therefore has multi-faceted benefits for the people of Egbeda,” Hon. Olayemi stated.

He added that projects of this nature go beyond infrastructure to build capacity at the grassroots.
“Ultimately, the development of projects such as motorized boreholes is part of deliberate endeavors to build greater resilience at the grassroots level. When you provide clean water, you reduce the burden on our primary healthcare centers. You improve school attendance for our children. You empower our mothers who spend hours daily searching for water. You support small businesses that depend on water for trade. This is governance that touches the people directly,” he said.

Hon. Olayemi commended Hon. Sanda Sikiru for his vision and commitment to needs-based governance, saying the projects align perfectly with the people-oriented agenda of the Governor Seyi Makinde administration in Oyo State.

“I congratulate the Chairman and the entire Egbeda Local Government for this achievement. By translating campaign promises into visible projects, you have shown that local government remains the closest tier of government to the people. I urge other councils to emulate this model of accountability and service delivery,” he added.

The DG further charged residents to take ownership of the facilities and protect them from vandalism to ensure sustainability.

Earlier in his address, Hon. Sanda Sikiru Oyedele said the water scheme was conceived out of an overwhelming desire to address the most pressing needs of the people across Egbeda.

“The water scheme is borne out of the overwhelming desire to address the needs of the people. Our promises to the people are not meant to remain on campaign platforms. We made commitments, and we are determined to keep them,” the Chairman said.

He explained that the projects were not conceived merely as infrastructural developments but as practical interventions aimed at improving public health, supporting households and businesses, and reducing the daily burden associated with accessing water.

Hon. Sanda Sikiru admonished residents and community leaders in the four benefiting wards to ensure the facilities are properly maintained and protected.

“Government can provide, but the people must protect. These boreholes belong to you. Guard them jealously and use them responsibly so that our children and grandchildren will also benefit,” he said.

The Chairman further assured that his administration would continue to identify critical needs across all 12 wards and channel available resources toward projects that deliver meaningful and sustainable benefits.

In separate goodwill messages, community leaders and residents across Ayede, Ajia-Ajiwogbo, Adekola/Iyana Agbala and Egbeda expressed appreciation to the Chairman for fulfilling his promise.

They described the projects as timely and valuable interventions that would positively affect health outcomes, reduce household expenses, and improve the overall welfare of the communities.

The commissioning attracted a large turnout of council officials, ward leaders, party stakeholders, women groups, and youth associations who celebrated the milestone.

The commissioning of the four motorized boreholes further underscores the Sanda Sikiru administration’s commitment to good governance, grassroots development, accountability, and the delivery of democratic dividends to the people of Egbeda Local Government.

With this intervention, Egbeda LG has again demonstrated that effective local governance is about identifying real needs and responding with practical solutions.
