The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ward 9, Ibadan North Local Government received a major boost on Thursday as Hon. Lukman Abayomi Olajide, popularly known as “Royal Umbrella”, made his first official appearance at the party’s ward meeting since his defection, with a pledge to deepen grassroots mobilization and party unity.
The meeting, held on Thursday, August 6, 2026, in Ibadan, turned into a celebration of renewed strength as party leaders and members welcomed Hon. Olajide with cheers, describing his entry into the APC as a strategic gain for the party in Ibadan North and across Oyo State.
Upon his arrival, Hon. Olajide was received by a high-powered delegation of APC leaders including the Ward 9 Chairman, Pastor Adewale Kehinde; APC Ibadan North Constituency II House of Assembly Candidate, Hon. Steve Adeyoju; and former Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, Hon. Omilabu Ghandi, alongside other distinguished stakeholders and party faithful.
The atmosphere was charged with excitement as members expressed joy over the development. Many described Hon. Olajide’s defection as “timely” and “a political advantage” that will strengthen APC’s structure ahead of future electoral contests.
In his remarks, Hon. Abayomi Olajide thanked the leadership and members of Ward 9 for their steadfast loyalty, sacrifice, and dedication to the APC. He reaffirmed his commitment to working with party leaders at all levels to reposition the APC for greater victories.
“I am here to serve, to support, and to work with you all. Our strength is in unity, and together we will deliver APC at the grassroots and beyond,” Hon. Olajide stated.

In a demonstration of his commitment to the welfare of party members, Hon. Olajide made generous donations of cash gifts to party leaders and members present at the meeting. He also provided food items to support members, a gesture that drew loud applause and commendations.
