Says Appointment Marks New Dawn For Technical Education, Academic Excellence In Oyo State
Otunba Oluseye Nathaniel Oladosu Opatoki, former PDP Governorship Aspirant in Oyo State, 2027, has extended heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Lasisi Taiwo Abideen and Dr. Olajide Taiwo Sherifat on their appointments as the substantive Rector and Registrar of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, respectively.
In a congratulatory statement issued on Tuesday, Otunba Opatoki described the appointments approved by Oyo State Governor, Engr. Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, FNSE, as a landmark decision that signals the beginning of a new era of stability, professionalism, and academic excellence at the premier institution.
The Governor’s approval, conveyed through the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Olusegun Olayiwola, also named Mr. Adegbola Abiodun Kolawole as Bursar and Mr. Osunrinade Olukunle Akinbola as Librarian. The appointments, effective from July 31st, 2026, are for a single tenure of five years, and mark the first set of substantive principal officers for the institution since 2005.
Otunba Oluseye Opatoki lauded the choice of Dr. Lasisi Taiwo Abideen as Rector, noting that his wealth of experience, academic pedigree, and commitment to service make him eminently qualified to steer the affairs of the institution.
“I heartily congratulate Dr. Lasisi Taiwo Abideen on this well-deserved elevation to the highest office of Rector. This appointment is not only a recognition of your capacity and dedication, but also a call to higher responsibility in shaping the future of technical education in Oyo State,” Opatoki stated.
He equally celebrated Dr. Olajide Taiwo Sherifat on her emergence as Registrar, describing her as a thoroughbred administrator whose diligence and integrity will bring renewed efficiency to the institution’s administrative architecture.
“To Dr. Olajide Taiwo Sherifat, I say congratulations on your appointment as Registrar. Your track record speaks volumes, and I am confident that under your watch, the registry of The Polytechnic, Ibadan will set new standards in transparency, record management, and service delivery,” he added.
Otunba Oluseye Opatoki commended Governor Seyi Makinde for demonstrating uncommon political will in breaking a 21-year cycle of acting leadership at The Polytechnic, Ibadan.
“By appointing substantive officers through a transparent, competitive, and due process, Governor Makinde has once again reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to meritocracy and the repositioning of education as the cornerstone of development in Oyo State,” Opatoki noted.
He stated that the Governor’s decision reflects a deep understanding of the role of stable leadership in driving institutional growth, staff morale, and investor confidence in tertiary education.
“This singular act will go a long way in restoring the lost glory of The Polytechnic, Ibadan and repositioning it to compete favorably with its peers globally. It is governance with foresight, and Oyo people will remember this administration for it,” he said.
While congratulating the new appointees, Otunba Oluseye Opatoki charged them to see their new offices as a call to service and an opportunity to leave enduring legacies.
He urged Dr. Lasisi to prioritize infrastructural development, staff welfare, accreditation of programmes, industry-academia collaboration, and the digitalization of academic processes to make Poly Ibadan a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship.
“Your tenure must be defined by vision, inclusiveness, and reforms that will make The Polytechnic, Ibadan the first choice for technical and vocational training in Nigeria. You must build bridges, unite all stakeholders, and raise the bar of academic excellence,” he charged.
To Dr. Sherifat, he admonished her to bring her administrative acumen to bear in ensuring a seamless, accountable, and technology-driven registry that supports teaching, research, and governance.
“I do not doubt that both of you will work in synergy to deliver on the mandate given to you. The Polytechnic community, alumni, and stakeholders across Oyo State are solidly behind you,” Opatoki said.
Concluding the statement, Otunba Oluseye Opatoki prayed for wisdom, strength, and divine guidance for the new Rector and Registrar as they assume office.
“On behalf of my family, political associates, and the good people of Oyo State, I wish Dr. Lasisi Taiwo Abideen and Dr. Olajide Taiwo Sherifat a successful tenure. May your leadership bring prosperity, progress, and pride to The Polytechnic, Ibadan,” he concluded.
