Osun State — June 11, 2026 – Operatives of the Iru Ekun Security Network, founded by Chief Sunday Adeyemo Igboho, have successfully apprehended two suspected kidnappers during a coordinated operation in Ora-Igbomina, Osun State, on Wednesday, June 10, 2026. The operation also led to the rescue of two abducted civilians, while a search for the third victim continues.

The intervention followed distress intelligence received on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, that three residents of the community were abducted by armed men and forced into a nearby forest. In line with its mandate of “Securing Communities, Protecting Futures,” the Iru Ekun rapid response team mobilized and commenced a bush-combing operation within hours.

According to the Team Leader of Iru Ekun Security Outfit, the suspects confessed during preliminary interrogation that they were nationals of the Republic of Niger. Niger is a landlocked, sovereign country in West Africa bordered by Nigeria and Benin to the south, Algeria and Libya to the north, Chad to the east, and Mali and Burkina Faso to the west. Named after the Niger River, with Niamey as its capital, the country has experienced security spillover that continues to test border communities across the region.

The suspects admitted to abducting three persons on June 9, 2026, and leading them into the forest. During contact with Iru Ekun operatives, the two kidnappers were overpowered, subdued, and apprehended while attempting to resist arrest. The team immediately secured and evacuated two of the victims, who were found unhurt. A full-scale search-and-rescue operation is currently ongoing to locate and safely extract the third victim.

In compliance with Nigerian law and established security protocols, the apprehended suspects were formally handed over to officers of the Nigeria Police Division, Oke-Ila, Osun State, on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, for proper documentation, investigation, and prosecution. Iru Ekun Security Network emphasizes that its mandate remains strictly complementary to the constitutional duties of the Nigeria Police Force and other statutory security agencies.

Chief Sunday Adeyemo Igboho commended the discipline and professionalism displayed by the field operatives. He reiterated that Iru Ekun was established to support government efforts by providing early warning, intelligence gathering, and rapid response in rural areas where terrain and distance often delay conventional security response.

“Our duty is prevention and protection, not confrontation. Iru Ekun exists to bridge the security gap at the grassroots, work within the law, and ensure our people can farm, travel, and sleep without fear,” Chief Adeyemo stated.

He urged traditional rulers, community leaders, and residents across Osun and neighboring states to strengthen local vigilance, share timely information with security agencies, and support border-area monitoring to prevent cross-border criminal infiltration.

The Ora-Igbomina incident reflects a growing pattern in Nigeria’s 2026 security environment, where kidnapping gangs increasingly exploit forest reserves and transnational routes. States including Osun, Oyo, Kwara, and Ondo have reported similar cases targeting farmers and rural travelers. Security experts continue to stress that effective rural security requires synergy between federal agencies, state governments, and credible community security outfits.

Iru Ekun Security Network assures the public that efforts to rescue the remaining victim are being conducted with caution and professionalism to guarantee his safety. The outfit will issue further updates as the operation progresses.
