IBADAN, Oyo State – Tuesday, June 9, 2026 — The internal dynamics of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Oyo State took a decisive turn on Tuesday as Dr. Adewale Kolapo Kareem, popularly known as AKK, issued a comprehensive call for unity, reconciliation, and strategic alignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a detailed statement addressed to fellow gubernatorial aspirants and party stakeholders, Dr. AKK declared that “sheathing our swords for the progress of Oyo APC” remains the only viable path to victory, while simultaneously debunking allegations that he collected ₦100 million to step down for the party’s flag-bearer, Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, PhD.

With the dust of the APC gubernatorial primaries settled, Dr. AKK emphasized that the party has entered a new phase where internal rivalry must give way to collective responsibility. He addressed his message as a “direct, brotherly appeal” to all co-aspirants who contested alongside him, stressing that the time for division has expired.

“We have passed the stage of internal contests, and it is fundamentally not ideal for us to still be at loggerheads at this critical point in time. The primary election has come and gone, and our immediate, sacred duty now is to shift our focus toward rallying round to build the party, merge our formidable political structures, and build an atmosphere of genuine love and unity,” Dr. AKK stated.

He framed the appeal as both a personal admonition and a strategic directive, urging party leaders to “rethink our path, look at the bigger picture, and define a unified way forward that guarantees the reclamation of the Agodi Government House.”

Recognizing the damaging effect of rumors on party cohesion, Dr. AKK directly confronted claims that he was paid ₦100 million to withdraw from the race. He described the allegation as a malicious fabrication by “merchants of discord” aimed at sowing distrust among APC members.

“Nothing could be further from the truth. To put things in proper perspective, my cumulative expenses since my foray into politics have comfortably crossed the ₦1 billion mark; it is therefore a complete ‘no-brainer’ that a mere ₦100 million would ever be the basis for my stepping down,” he explained.

According to the APC chieftain, his decision to withdraw was guided by “pure progressive principles, a profound respect for leadership direction, and a deep conviction that Senator Alli shares my exact passion and developmental vision for Oyo State.” He noted that the overwhelming victory recorded by Senator Alli at the primaries has vindicated the decision, proving it was “the right and best decision for the survival of the party.”

Dr. AKK used the platform to offer an authoritative endorsement of Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, describing him as an “exceptional bridge-builder, a leader of profound vision, and a statesman” capable of accommodating every interest within the party.

“He does not run an exclusionary system, and he recognises that the strength of our general election campaign relies entirely on the collective energy of all aspirants and their vast followers. We are not losing our identities by coming together, rather, we are fortifying our common fortress,” AKK said.

He praised Senator Alli for demonstrating humility and a willingness to integrate ideas from other aspirants, ensuring that the APC’s progressive manifesto would reflect the collective aspirations of Oyo people rather than the vision of a single individual.

In a passionate conclusion, Dr. AKK called on distinguished leaders, co-aspirants, and grassroots stakeholders to abandon grievances and channel all resources toward building an “invincible party” capable of winning the 2027 governorship election.

“The general election is the ultimate destination, and victory will only coast home if we stand shoulder-to-shoulder as one indivisible family. We owe it to the suffering masses of Oyo State who are looking up to the APC as the only viable alternative to the current administration,” he urged.

He enjoined party members to “march forward in unity, campaign with one voice, and collectively deliver a resounding landslide victory for Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, PhD, and the All Progressives Congress.”

Political observers note that Dr. AKK’s statement represents a critical intervention in APC’s post-primary reconciliation process. By publicly dismissing the ₦100 million rumor and aligning fully with Senator Alli, the former aspirant is helping to neutralize a narrative that could have undermined party morale.

The use of rallying slogans such as “APC… PROGRESS!”, “AKK 2027”, “Aseyori ni tiwa”, “Ajọṣe, Ajoje”, and “A Task That Must Be Done” underscores the dual message of loyalty and renewed commitment.

As Oyo 2027 approaches, Dr. AKK’s intervention is expected to accelerate the merger of political structures, deepen grassroots mobilization, and present APC as a united, credible alternative. The central message is clear: internal unity is not an option, but the foundation upon which the party’s bid to return to Agodi Government House will be built.
