Ibadan, Oyo State — As the world commemorates May 2 as a date etched with historic milestones, Otunba Oluseye Nathaniel Oladosu Opatoki, a frontline governorship aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party in Oyo State for the 2027 elections, marked his birthday today Saturday with a reflective message underscoring the symbolic weight of the day and his renewed pledge to serve the people.

In a statement personally signed and made available to newsmen in Ibadan, the philanthropist, grassroots mobilizer, and respected party stalwart described May 2 as a “date of destiny” that has shaped global narratives and continues to inspire hope, resilience, and renewal in the lives of millions.

“Today, I join the rest of the world in celebrating a date that is far bigger than my personal milestone,” Otunba Opatoki declared. “May 2 is a day history remembers. It is a day that reminds us that every new dawn carries the potential for transformation, both in the life of an individual and in the life of a nation.”
The Oyo PDP chieftain noted that May 2 holds profound importance across continents, marking events that have redefined politics, sports, science, and human freedom. He recalled that on May 2, 2011, the world witnessed a turning point in global security; on May 2, 1611, the King James Version of the Bible was published, shaping literature and faith for generations; and on May 2, 1933, the modern Loch Ness Monster legend gained global attention, symbolizing human curiosity and the power of narrative.

In sports and culture, May 2, 2015, hosted the historic “Fight of the Century” between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao, while in politics, May 2 remains Israel’s Independence Day anniversary celebration date according to the Hebrew calendar in some years.

“From the fall of tyranny to the rise of ideas that changed civilization, May 2 speaks to the triumph of purpose over circumstance,” Otunba Oluseye Opatoki stated. “It teaches us that dates are not just numbers on a calendar. They are reminders that our actions can become history.”
Turning to his home state, Otunba Opatoki said his birthday has always been a moment of sober reflection and recommitment to the ideals of service, equity, and people-first governance. He reaffirmed his 2027 governorship ambition as a “covenant with the masses” to deliver inclusive development, youth empowerment, agricultural revolution, and industrial growth across Oyo State.
“Oyo deserves a leadership that understands the urgency of now like what the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde FNSE has been doing. A leadership that sees every citizen as a stakeholder in our common destiny,” he said. “As I mark another year today, I rededicate myself to the vision of a prosperous Oyo where no one is left behind. May 2 reminds me that birth is not just about age, but about purpose. And my purpose is to serve.”
The Ibadan-born politician commended the resilience of Oyo residents amid economic challenges in Nigeria, praising market women, artisans, civil servants, farmers, and youths for sustaining the state’s economy through sheer determination. He assured them that his blueprint for governance would prioritize job creation, affordable education, quality healthcare, and security of lives and property.
Otunba Oluseye Opatoki used the occasion to call for unity among PDP stakeholders and the entire political class in Oyo State, stressing that the 2027 elections must be about ideas, competence, and track record, not division or bitterness.
“As we celebrate today, I ask for your prayers. Pray for me, pray for Oyo State, and pray for Nigeria. May 2 has shown us that with courage and unity, nations are built and destinies are fulfilled,” he added.
Political associates, community leaders, youth groups, and well-wishers across the state have continued to send goodwill messages to the PDP governorship hopeful, describing him as a “bridge builder, philanthropist, and leader with a human face.”
Otunba Oluseye Nathaniel Oladosu Opatoki, widely known for his humanitarian interventions and grassroots reach, is considered one of the major contenders for the PDP ticket ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial election in Oyo State.
