A gubernatorial aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Dr. Adewale Kolapo Kareem (AKK), has cautioned against attempts to undermine the party’s integrity through media speculation and premature claims of consensus candidates.
In a statement, Dr. Kolapo Kareem expressed concern over reports circulating in the media suggesting the emergence of certain individuals as “consensus candidates” for the governorship seat in Oyo State. He emphasized that such speculation could create unnecessary discord within the party and undermine the democratic process.
Dr. Kolapo Kareem stressed that the APC’s focus should be on strengthening party structures, rather than entertaining premature conclusions that do not reflect the current realities on the ground. He urged party faithful to subscribe to the established democratic means and procedures provided by the APC constitution, warning against attempts to bypass these codes through the backdoor.
The aspirant reiterated his confidence in the APC leadership in Oyo State, led by Otunba Moses Alake Adeyemo, to guide the party through a peaceful and fair decision-making process. He expressed his trust that the party will prioritize the collective interest of the APC above all else and ensure that the eventual gubernatorial flag bearer emerges through a process that is beyond reproach.
AKK emphasized that his candidacy is based on competence, integrity, and the ability to win the general election against the incumbent. He urged fellow progressives to remain vigilant against attempts to sow seeds of rancor or confusion and to focus on the party’s vision for a better Oyo State.
The statement concluded with AKK’s commitment to the party’s progress and his confidence in emerging as the APC’s gubernatorial candidate in 2027, with the slogan “Aseyori ni tiwa AKK!! Ajọṣe, Ajoje AKK!!!” (Victory is ours AKK!! A task that must be done).
