The Caretaker Chairman, Kajola Local Government Area of Oyo State, Alhaj (Hon.) Saliman Afolabi Borikansunwon has distributed facemasks to his constituents with a view to preventing and curtailing the further spread of coronavirus pestilence.
The terminal classes(SSS3, JSS3 and Primary 6) which Oyo State Government directed to resume because of due final examinations were given 876, 951 and 1370 facemasks respectively.
Other beneficiaries of facemasks got theirs according to the following statistics: KLG Staff 350, the six wards in LG 480 pieces, the Kings and Baales200, Christian Association of Nigeria(CAN) 200, League of Imams 200, Market Women 50, Political Class 200.
Also, Police Men 30, NSCDC 20, DSS 10, NDLEA 15, INEC 10, NURTW 60, Teachers 60 and School for the handicapped 40 respectively.
Borikansunwon while speaking with Khalid Imran, Editor, naijatodaynews.com in his office disclosed that the distribution of facemasks was premised on Oyo State Government’s readiness and determination to prevent and curtail the spread of coronavirus pandemic.
Stressing that Covid-19 had become a deadly and pernicious disease which its negative effects have no bound and Oyo State Government under the current leadership of Engr Seyi Makinde has made the wearing of facemasks compulsory.
Borikansunwon added that the governor had not handled the ravaging coronavirus pestilence with levity hands, as he has compelled the Law Enforcement Agents(LEA) to challenge anyone who fails to wear the facemask in the state.
He said that the governor was determined and ready to curtail and end the pernicious disease which he claimed has crippled the economy, government’s activities and other programmes that require physical gatherings in the pacesetter state.
While admonishing the beneficiaries, Borikansunwon advised the beneficiaries of facemasks to make adequate use of them and they should always ensure they put the facemasks on while at public gatherings.
He added that the government did not distribute the facemasks for home decoration nor placed them below the jaws but using to cover both mouths and noses.
In his own words, Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Gbenga Ogundokun appreciated Governor Seyi Makinde’s led adminstration for his promptness and readiness to get rid of coronavirus pestilence.
Ogundokun admonished the beneficiaries of facemasks to help government fight the pandemic via putting on the facemasks always at public gatherings, washing hands regularly and adhering to WHO’s protocols associated with curtailment of the deadly disease.
In their appreciation, the representatives of facemasks’ beneficiaries thanked the Governor and KLG Caretaker Chairman for their relentless efforts and zeal to get the pandemic curtailed.
They assured that the beneficiaries would make judicious use of the facemasks and jointly support the governments at all levels in fighting the disease.
The event had attendance of Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Gbenga Ogundokun, Supervisory Councillors: Works( Hon. Kabiru Olaoye), Education, Agric and Health, also the political dignitaries and host of others.
