Abuja, Nigeria – Dr. Adewale Kolapo Kareem (AKK), a gubernatorial aspirant for Oyo State in the 2027 election, has expressed deep concern over the recent delay in the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) English examination, which took place on May 28, 2025. In a statement released on Thursday, May 29, 2025, Dr. AKK described the incident as “deeply regrettable” and a “failure in the administration of such a critical examination.”

According to Dr. AKK, students across Nigeria, including many in Oyo State, endured a traumatic experience as they were forced to remain in examination centers until late hours, with some students staying as late as 8 PM or beyond. He emphasized that the WAEC English examination is a gateway to tertiary education and a determinant of students’ future opportunities. “No student should face such distress during this pivotal moment,” Dr. AKK stated.

Dr. AKK stood in solidarity with the students, expressing sympathy for the emotional and psychological stress they endured. He called for immediate accountability from the concerned authorities, including WAEC and the Federal Ministry of Education. “The decent thing is to provide a clear explanation for this failure, issue a formal apology to the affected students, and take concrete steps to address the implications of this incident,” Dr. AKK emphasized.
